Description of the issue:
I have experienced the issue as described by Alyssarya in the original post. I think I have resolved the issue by following the steps given by both AgentStarling and hellodave.
Steps to Reproduce:
Having followed the aforementioned steps, I am now unable to reproduce the issue.
The issue first appeared when I opened the browser to my gmail tab and was presented with a screen I’ve never seen before. I can’t remember what was said on the screen but there were two buttons labelled something like ‘go to standard mode’ and ‘go to HTML mode’. When I clicked the ‘go to standard mode’ button I was again met with the same unusual screen with the two buttons. When I tried the ‘go to HTML mode’ button, gmail loaded in the alternative/inferior mode with the “You have been redirected to the basic HTML version because this browser is not supported. To use standard view please upgrade to a [supported browser]” message in the top left.
Any basic/direct method to attempt to return to standard mode failed (clicking on the “standard mode link at the bottom of the gmail page, closing and re-opening tab/browser, lowering Brave shields etc.)
Brave Version:
V1.28.105 (an up to date version as of time of writing)
Reproducible on current live release:
Unclear. I was able to reproduce the issue at least once by closing the gmail tab and opening a new one. But I have opened and closed gmail several times now and it has not redirected me to the inferior/alternative HTML mode.
So on boot up this morning the pinned tab is back to basic HTML and won’t load standard. GMail standard loaded in a new tab straight away so I’ve replaced the pinned tab with that one. I closed the browser and re-opened and the new pinned tab has remained in standard mode.
I just tested GMail on my end - still nothing over here. I’m wondering if Google aren’t rolling out changes slowly, changes that will eventually affect all of us… Quite a weird and yet an interesting issue.
just popping in to say that i got this same issue today. i had my gmail tab pinned and hadn’t ever closed it, but simply closing that pinned tab, and opening a new one to be pinned fixed the issue
It seems like users here have managed to resolve this issue on their own. I’m replying here to let everyone know that I have read this information and am passing it along to the relevant teams so that we’re aware of the behavior.
Thank you @Rethanis for consolidating/tracking this issue – excellent support as usual.
FWIW, I was having the same issue here and went through many of the above suggestions. I have 3 different Gmail tabs open and pinned in my main window. Two of the 3 are domains, not @gmail.com and only the @gmail.com account/tab was working properly. I closed the pinned tab, opened a new tab, went to the mail.domain.com and was able to log in to the standard version. I then repinned the tab and so far, everything is working fine.
So, at least in my case, closing the pinned tab for both of those hosted gmail accounts fixed the issue. Hopefully this helps others.
^ this. Had the exact same symptoms, and had Gmail on a pinned tab. After closing it and going to mail.google.com, it worked as expected again. Thanks.
I’m personally get a freezing issue, it just hangs up and page crashes and asks for a re-load. Its also happening for Outlook, if thats any help - cant access either. Thanks
I had the same problem just now. After reading and trying a few suggestions in this thread, this is what worked for me.
I first tried opening gmail in a private window, that worked. So what I ended up doing was disabling javascript through brave shields, reloading, then re-enabled it and it still didnt work. After that I closed the tab, and opened gmail in a new tab, and it worked.
I am not sure if disabling javascript was necessary, but it was part of what made it work again for me.
