When I open Brave and utilize Startpage often a warning appears saying it is not safe because Startpage allows http, and only https websites are safe. It asks me to return to Brave without Startpage, but offers the option to keep Startpage and then use that.
I’m using Windows 8.1 which still works fine in general for me. Having good AV (Anti-Malware) I’m not really worried about viruses and I don’t go to little known or unknown shady websites. On top of that by default I’m always surfing in the virtual space of Sandboxie.
Maybe it’s better to keep that warning going. But I’m just wondering about that. I always overrule it.
Without Startpage the top information on the search results page is given by AI. And I noticed that AI gathers its information from the main stream media. Leaving out information from alternative sites of info.
Of course I can pass that by and scroll down, but I do not like the info AI gives so I might as well not even see it. That’s why I use Startpage.
Thank you for that helpful response.
I will utilize it and change the setting on my Brave which I like so much that it’s the only browser I have.
(Except for Internet Explorer which is obsolete. But still part of Windows 8.1.)
I also had to scroll down to Advanced and turn off:
“Always use secure connections.
Upgrade navigations to https and warn before loading sites that don’t support it.”
Now Startpage appears right away.
I think it’s good that Brave gives those warnings by default for those among us who are less savvy concerning safety.
I had to change those setting in Brave by temporarily disabling Sandboxie’s forced programs, otherwise the settings would not stick after closing the browser as the sandbox would be emptied and all alterations be gone.
(Same would happen with malware if a site had infected my machine while I was surfing the web.)
