Font turns to scripts on some sites

Description of the issue: I’ve noticed on a couple of websites (one is my own) the fonts change to a script font and it is very difficult to read. When I open them using firefox they look fine. I spoke with my hosting company and they said it could be because they use google fonts and that maybe Brave doesn’t support that.

Exact URL of the website in question: www.cogeco.ca and www.tinakonecny.com

Did the issue present with default Shields settings? (yes/no)Yes

Does the site function as expected when Shields are turned off? No change

Is there a specific Shields configuration that causes the site to break? If so, tell us that configuration. (yes/no): I don’t know

Does the site work as expected when using Chrome? I don’t use Chrome, but they both open fine with Firefox

Brave version (check About Brave):Version 1.25.72 Chromium: 91.0.4472.101 (Offi cial Build) (64-bit)

No changes from what Chrome does here @tinakonecny I’m not sure what “Fonts Change to a script”

All the fonts loaded here; from the folders (from the sample pages)

I’ve taken screen shots so you can see what it does.

Does it work in private window mode? From my Brave;

It doesn’t seem to make a difference.

How about a new Brave profile?

Still no difference.

It used to be fine, it just changed on my website recently. The odd thing is when I am working on my site in website creator in Brave, the font looks fine. But when I open my site in a new window it switches to the script. At first I thought it might be my computer but it does the same thing on my laptop too.

Does the issue show up in Chrome? also download Brave Beta (uses a different profile)

Interesting. I had to install both Chrome and Beta, and surprisingly it does it in both! Still scripty for my site and Cogeco. Why is Firefox the only one that it’s ok on?

Maybe revert any changes you did recently to the fonts, I see the site is http only. Maybe its related to non https ?

I’ve had this problem with the Cogeco site for over a year. My site was working fine until recently and I haven’t made any changes to it since last year.

I’ve been searching online about google fonts, and I think I might have found it. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/22011139/google-fonts-are-not-rendering-on-google-chrome#22025804

Good to know, its more of a quirk in Chromium browsers.

I guess I’ll have to talk with my web hosting company to figure out my site. Thank you for your effort.
