Empty "ghost" Brave windows w/ Mission Control on Mac OS X

Description of the issue:
Strange empty Brave windows spontaneously appear. They are visible only when using Mission Control in Mac OS X version 10.15.5. (See screenshots.) Clicking on one goes to a normal populated Brave window.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. They just show up after using Brave for a few days. They are not present when Brave is restarted. I’m unaware of what specifically creates them.

Expected result:
The empty windows do not get created.

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Version 1.11.101 Chromium: 84.0.4147.89 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:

@Yamuna,
Very interesting. The next time this occurs, can you grab a screenshot of your Activity Monitor and check and see exactly what Brave processes are running at that time?

Thanks for your help. At the time of these screenshots, there was one “ghost” window. Also, pressing Command + ` to switch windows never brings up the ghost window. It just cycles through normal windows.

@Yamuna,
Well to be honest I don’t think I’ve even seen this issue before. There’s a small chance it could be Hardware Acceleration? You can try disabling that at Settings --> Advanced --> System --> Hardware Acceleration.

It may also be a particular extension you have installed – if you have any extensions, can you try disabling them temporarily and see if the window still appears/

@Mattches,
I tried both of these ideas. I turned off Hardware Acceleration, quit and restarted Brave, and then the ghost window came back. I then turned Hardware Acceleration back on, disabled all extensions, quit and restarted Brave, and again the ghost window came back.

@Yamuna,
Thank you for testing for me. Very strange behavior – l’ll have to reach out to some team members to see if they know what’s going on. Appreciate your patience.

@Mattches After creating two new Profiles for the first time ever in my use of Brave, and closing some Brave windows but not restarting Brave, I discovered that the ghost window that was present right before doing these things is now gone. This is the first time I have seen a ghost window disappear without restarting Brave.

glad it get fixed @Yamuna looks like the new update to the new chrome core fix that

have a nice day both of you

@Yamuna,
Can you confirm for me that the issue has not reappeared?

@Mattches It has not reappeared! I did not use my computer for most of the 17th and all of the 18th, though, so the data so far are limited. But so far, so good. Thank you for your help and for following up.
Edit: It’s back.
