Embedded YouTube videos won't play - SOLVED

SEEMS TO BE SOLVED - PLEASE SEE REPLY DOWNTHREAD

Description of the issue:
–YouTube videos embedded in websites/posts will not play; I get the error in the screen shot below.
–It makes no difference if I go to another tab and sign in to YT. Whether or not I am signed into YT, the videos still don’t play if they are embedded in a website.
–If I open the video on YT it will play. It just doesn’t play as an embedded video.
–If I open the website in a private Brave window, the embedded video plays in the website. Also, if I paste the URL into Safari, the embedded video plays.
–This is a new (recent) behavior. I’ve used Brave for several years on the same computers but this never happened until a few days ago.
–I tried (1) updating Brave and restarting it, (2) clearing Brave cache/history, and (3) I also cleared YouTube site settings but the problem persists.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Try to play the YT video embedded in a site, such as either of these:
    https://americansongwriter.com/behind-the-song-fleetwood-mac-rhiannon/
    https://pitchfork.com/thepitch/6-takeaways-from-the-weeknds-new-album-after-hours/
  2. The problem also occurs if I try to play a YT video embedded in a tweet such as this one:
    https://twitter.com/JeffKallman55/status/1241515363776393217

Expected result:
Would like YT vids to play when embedded in website so I don’t have to open YT in another tab or use private windows all the time. Thanks!

Brave Version (check About Brave):
[Version 1.5.115 Chromium: 80.0.3987.149 (Official Build) (64-bit)]

Also been suffering this, exactly the same steps

1.5.115 Chromium: 80.0.3987.149 (Official Build) (64-bit)
OS Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (Build 7601)

Already reset Youtube’s site settings thru the lock in the URL bar. No dice.

Hi, I might have made some progress with this. I have the same build of Brave on another computer and tonight I clicked on an embedded YT vid without thinking - and it worked. So I went through settings item by item on both machines to compare them.

On the machine with the problem, I had “Allow all cookies.” On the machine that didn’t have the problem, I had “Only block cross-site cookies.” So I changed this setting on the problem machine. Now it’s working, YouTube vids are playing in the embedded post or page.

If you get a chance give it a try and let me know. I don’t quite understand why this would happen but I hope it’s this easy!

Fixed it for me, too. Cool.

Like you said, no idea why that would work, but I’m glad it did.
