Discussions Toggle Button Won't Stay Off

Description of the issue:
The Brave Search “All Settings / Discussions” button turns on by itself every new day I do a search even though I turn the button off the previous day.

Does this happen every time you:

  • Close the browser?
  • Restart your computer?
  • Perform a new search?
  • If you just wait long enough?

It would be very helpful to know what actions trigger this behavior.

Let me try this again with a JPG attachment.

After turning off the Discussion Search Button, closing my browser, and opening my browser, the Discussion Search Button is turned on automatically by itself (see attachment).

Thank you for confirming. Do you have any information set to be cleared “on exit” by chance?

I can’t think of anything at this time.

  1. Can you give me any insight as to what you think might be closing at the end of a session?
  2. Am I correct to assume that everything is working on your systems and you think it is something specific to mine? If yes, then I will try to isolate something on my end.

  1. If you’re clearing cookies/site data on exit (Settings --> History --> Clear browsing data --> On exit) then there’s a good chance that these settings are getting reset as well.
  2. Yes, that is my thinking — I do not get this behavior on my end.

After getting your reply and realizing that the problem has something to do with my system, I investigated software that might be causing the problem and found the culprit.

I use an extension Cookie AutoDelete and have it set to Whitelist (keep) everything (Cache, IndexedDB, LocalStorage, Plugin Data, Service Workers, and All Cookies) from *.brave.com so nothing gets deleted. “Search.Brave.com” information should be included in the Whitelist because of the *. in the brave.com extension.

However, the Brave Search settings and information must be stored differently from regular web page information, and/or Cookie AutoDelete considers the Brave Search settings and information to be in a category called “Other Browsing Data Cleanup Options / LocalStorage Cleanup” because Cookie AutoDelete keeps deleting all the Search.Brave.com settings every time I close and restart the Browser. If I disable the option to cleanup Cookie AutoDelete “Other Browsing Data Cleanup Options / LocalStorage ”, then the Brave Search settings are kept.

Now we know what is causing my problem and this might impact other Brave Search users who use similar browser extensions.
