Hi Brave Support,
I’m experiencing a serious issue where Brave doesn’t reliably store cookies or login data across sessions, and the Cookies
file is either missing entirely or gets deleted/reset periodically.
Symptoms:
- The
Cookies
file underUser Data\Default\
is often missing, or appears temporarily and disappears again. - Login sessions/logged-in accounts are randomly wiped, even without clearing cookies manually.
- Sometimes logins persist for a while, but:
- After restarting my PC using the power button (forced shutdown),
- Or after Windows performs automatic repairs,
- Brave loses all stored cookies, logins, and site data.
- I have never enabled “Clear cookies on exit” or used Guest/Incognito modes.
What I’ve tried:
- Verified all settings allow cookies.
- No such issue on Chrome or Firefox — only Brave is affected.
System:
- Windows 11 Pro 64-bit
- Brave version: [insert your version from
brave://settings/help
] - System SSD is healthy (no file system errors reported by Windows).
My Questions:
- Why does Brave sometimes fail to write or preserve the
Cookies
file? - Is there any way to prevent data loss after system crashes or shutdowns?
- Is this a known issue?
