Chrome theme works for tab color scheme, but no theme image on google page like usual

The Chrome theme that I have selected changes the tabs and color scheme like it should, but when on the google homepage (google.com) the main theme is not displayed, as it would be in my Chrome browser. I have changed Brave’s ‘new tab setting’ to be set to google.com, but nothing changed. I’d really like to be able to see the theme image if possible?

  1. Choose a theme
  2. Open a new tab/go to google.com
  3. Notice the google home page is plain, no theme image

Should act as I have described.

Always

@ojallen Thanks for reporting. Can you please let us know which theme have you selected from the below list.

Thanks!

Hi,

I have tired a variety of themes from that menu, but the one that I would probably use the most would be “Williams F1,” should be in the sports section.

Thanks!

@ojallen,
This is because the image part of the theme is overridden by our New Tab Page. Other theme changes work but anything else that might alter the NTP in some way is not currently working. See this issue/post made here:

Any plans on fixing it? How hard is it to allow google theme background pics ,specifically, to replace the NTP?

Exactly what I was thinking. Maybe their shields cause the blockage? Should be a simple fix…

Yes, there are plans to “fix” it in that we’re currently developing our NTP refactor. More information on that as it becomes available.

You’re more than welcome to visit our Github repo, download the Brave source and submit a pull request if you fix it.
