Browser not using hardware acceleration

I just installed Brave for the first time and it feels overall laggy, scrolling and animations don’t feel as smooth as in Firefox or Chrome, and Youtube feels like its running at 15fps at times. I suspect hardware acceleration isn’t working for me. I checked and it’s enabled; tried disabling it, restarting, and reenabling it; checked on Windows graphics settings that it uses the GPU, same on nvidia control panel; and also tried updating drivers and restarting the computer, nothing helped.

Brave Version: v1.75.181

Additional Information:
I have a laptop with an i7 8750H, GTX 1060 6gb and 16gb of RAM. All other browsers run perfectly smooth other than the occasional freeze.

GPU status is exactly the same as in Chrome:

If all the settings/status is the same in Brave as it is in Chrome and HWA is working as expected in Chrome, then perhaps the issue is caused by something else?

  • We just released an update today, can you please udpate to the latest build just to see if any fixes and/or the chromium bump helpd your issue at all?

  • Do you have any extensions installed in the browser at this time?

  • If you open a Guest window (Menu --> More tools --> Guest profile), then close your original profile and try browsing in the guest profile, do you still see the same dip in performance?

Still running very laggy after update (v1.76.73). I have no extensions installed. The guest profile didn’t make a difference. Disabling hardware acceleration makes it run just a bit smoother but not as good as Chrome or Firefox.
