Brave UI jiggling downward and upward

Everytime I scroll, press a key, or something in Brave, it always “moves” a little up after 3-4 seconds, and it’s super annoying. I have to mention that this issue happens only if the Windows taskbar is off. Even now while typing this happens.

Because I can’t post videos over 8MB, I had to upload a recording showcasing the issue on another file-sharing site, so you can watch it here. I did highlight using pink how it rescales.

Also, to show you I’m on the latest version.

Is there any fix for this problem?

Nobody knows how to fix this?

How to Enable or Disable Taskbar Settings in Windows 10

How to change settings for Taskbar on Windows 11

https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/windows-11/how-to-change-settings-for-taskbar-on-windows-11

Using a Windows OS 11 PC, with the Taskbar set to show when I hover the mouse over the bottom of the display area (Automatically hide the Taskbar ← thus, no Taskbar present while testing) . . .

I used Brave Browser (latest version), full screen, and scrolled up and down the Brave Community webpage.

When scrolling downward, there is a bit of a jump sometimes, as the Discourse software, used by Brave, loads more Brave Community reports.

But there was no chatter nor un-smooth-ness, in the scrolling that would be an issue.

I watched your video, but that did not reveal the “it” in your:

it always “moves” a little up

Windows OS 11 Taskbar setting Automatically hide the Taskbar:

That’s not really a solution, other browsers don’t have this issue when the taskbar is turned off.

Can’t really no one confirm this bug?

Made another recording in which I showcase the problem, this time in the Brave menus:

Look closely how the menus go up and down for a very short time.

During a very brief moment of about 0.3 - 0.4 seconds (at the most), in the interval between 6 and 7 seconds, in your video, there is a very tiny jiggle downward and then upward, noticeable at the lower left corner of the display.

That is not easy to see in your video, because the camera wanders.

If you want to capture what is happening, you need to find a WHITE piece of tape - shaped into an arrow tip.

Stick that WHITE arrow on the physical frame of the computer monitor, along the left edge, at a position to the left of the Downloads icon ← aim the tip of the WHITE piece of tape, at that.

THEN record a new video and provide that (you could replace either of the 2 existing recordings, if you wish).

Meanwhile, blame my older eyesight, but the tiny jiggle is barely noticeable and not a showstopper for me. Though I certainly have had User Interface issues with “high tech” (like a very subtle change in the smoothness category between touchpad surfaces, or the color of a display, or the very minor positioning of keys of the keyboard, or the . . . see, you got me started!).

You might consider, that advice, help, suggestions, tips . . . from other members of the Brave Community, may focus upon:

  • computer display monitor settings
  • computer display monitor drivers
  • plus a variety of “backend” display / video graphics settings (egs.: Angle, OpenGL, Vulkan -type flags) that may, or may not, apply

Also, would you please provide detailed steps or a video of how you turn OFF the Windows OS Taskbar? Thanks.

It’s not really turned off, it just auto-hides when I don’t use the taskbar.

Unfortunately I tried also with a screenrecording but on the screenrecording the issue isn’t visible.

@pilis

OK, so you are actually using the Taskbar auto-hide setting, about which I provided an image in an earlier reply, above.

Yes, that one.

Without using that setting the issue disappears.
But when using it, the issue is present.

And only Brave has this issue, other browsers don’t have it when I use the taskbar autohide setting.

Updated the title of the topic so it won’t create confusion anymore.

@289wk can you try reproducing the issue I have to make sure I’m not the only one who has it?

@pilis

I suspect a bit of software:

There is probably some realm near the bottom of the screen - where the mouse arrow tip will cause the Windows OS Taskbar to be prepared to reappear.

Then comes a threshold - an invisible - where the mouse arrow will cause the beginning, upward reappearance of the Taskbar.

In general, if we follow each of the processes involved, somewhere in that mixture, the UP/DOWN jiggle appears to be a response.

I could only guess, what settings available to you, may be used ← and I likely would not guess well.

I suggest that you try to investigate and test, in order to learn what might be the steps that fix the issue.

One thing that may help, is to find another computer display monitor, and see how it reacts.

See what you can find out, searching online for graphics settings.

When you have worn out that effort, return here and request formal Brave Support help.

You could do that now, but you would be asking Brave Support to do the investigating for you, re an issue that does not yet have a significant amount of Brave Browser users requesting help.

The more that you know, the more considerations that you study, will help you a lot, when presenting your case. You will be prepared to answer technical matters, as precisely as you can.

In my humble opinion.

Not trying to sound mean, but:

I’m asking that because I don’t know if it’s something that appears only at me or not. In fact on the Vivaldi forum other people who were with bug tracking asked me to give them the steps on how to reproduce the issue and they finally confirmed it. So that’s not how you take it.

And i think it’s perfectly normal to ask for the support to try reproducing the issue. After all why do I ask for support if I myself have to figure out the solution? What’s the purpose of this forum in this case?

Ok, but why this issue doesn’t happen with other browsers and only Brave has it?

I don’t have other monitors.

Again, not wanting to sound mean but most of the people who use this browser aren’t “experts”. And this forum isn’t only for experts.

@pilis

Please provide:

Technical details that you can find, about your computer display monitor. Make and model. Device info that your Windows OS reports, and what may be on a label/sticker somewhere on the monitor.

The device driver or drivers. Have you tried alternate drivers? (Are there any - used by a close cousin of the particular model?)

I suggest again, placing some WHITE arrow indicator along the left edge of the monitor - in order to create a reference point - and make a new video.

Please update your Brave Browser (Windows OS) version to the latest: v1.77.97

Don’t worry about “mean.”

Are these enough?

Brave is updated, but the issue is still there.

Also, I use a laptop, so I don’t use monitors.

@Mattches

The OP, @pilis , has a particular issue with the performance of the OP’s laptop computer screen’s display of Brave Browser, WHEN:

  • Windows OS Taskbar is set to auto-hide: Automatically hide the taskbar
  • the mouse arrow moves around, or
  • scrolling, or
  • pressing a key

. . . THEN, the screen display of the Brave Browser window jiggles a bit, UP / DOWN at some point in time (usually a few seconds) after the user’s action.

IF the Windows OS Taskbar is NOT set to auto-hide: Automatically hide the taskbar . . . THEN, there is no such UP / DOWN jiggle event.

The OP posted a video of the screen behavior, and I can notice the UP / DOWN jiggle event occuring for about a 0.3 to 0.4 second interval within 6 to 7 seconds after the start of that video’s play.

My wild guess is, that there may be something about, how and why the Taskbar behaves in response to the computer user’s activity while using Brave Browser . . . given the Taskbar auto-hide is enabled . . . that, because of the computer display’s:

  • type, and/or
  • settings, and/or
  • hardware, and/or
  • device drivers

. . . THEN, the UP / DOWN jiggle event occurs.

Details about the OP’s computer and display are at the OP’s reply:

@Mattches I also wanna mention that Brave is the only browser having this problem, the others don’t have it.
