I’m trying to watch Olympics tennis, but website is not translating to English. Macbook Pro, up to date. No translator option appears in the upper right corner next to Shield. https://vk.com/video/@tennisatpwta
@NotAgain if you right click on the page, can you see a translate option? Such as below:
I know mine says Translate to English
because of settings, but I think you should see something similar for whichever languages.
It was working fine on VK until the weekend when it stopped showing up in the upper right corner next to the Shields icon, no longer allowing for translation of the video titles into English.
Not sure if you’re right clicking on different spot or if Mac works different. Interesting that you’re having the issue. If you go to it on a private window, does it work any better? I’m wondering if extension or cookies are contributing, as these are kind of the default things that usually are to blame for things not working.
I didn’t change any cookie settings. It’s the same as usual.
Most sites, including VK, are at block 3rd Party of Five Milanos while select others are increased to block all Nabiscos when I encounter excessive popups or redirects. Not going to lower them.
I saw a recent thread on normal site functionality being impinged by Shields, but I haven’t made any settings changes since updating, per usual.
Yes, Macleods works different. I screenshot all that I knew…

Hi @NotAgain , to solve your problem, I’m leaving you a thread to solve your case https://support.brave.com/hc/en-us/articles/8963107404813-How-do-I-use-Brave-Translate and if it doesn’t work for you, please could you share your screenshot in the settings / Language / translator so I can help you.
Brave’s translator feature is not new to me. It was working fine on VK until the weekend. It then stopped showing up / translating the video titles into English. I’m using a Macbook Pro.
mmm. It’s strange that the translator stopped working. Did you try the new profile in the settings to clear up any doubts about the problem?
And if not, try Brave Nightly and Brave-Beta in another browser to see if it’s working properly. Here’s the link
I’m not doing all that. I purposefully try not to fiddle with things, so if & when things go wrong, I know it’s not me. Issue is likely tied to the latest update. It was working fine before then. Private mode made no difference.
Most likely yes. Or maybe you have some extension that must be causing the problem.
I don’t use an added extensions, as my earlier post alludes to.
@NotAgain I’m actually a bit torn. I see where it doesn’t automatically offer to translate when I visit the page itself. And even doing the right click and choosing to translate, I’m offered with message below:
However, what I also noticed is most of the page is already in English:
Notice how the entire left side is in English? Plus the one menu above the videos is in English and all. What isn’t in English are the video titles. Not sure how that’s supposed to work.
Can you confirm whether you’re trying to translate to English?
Let me also tag in @Mattches to see if he knows if there are any adjustments that can be made. As I’ve been trying to force it to translate, it seems unable. And I get the following errors in Dev Tools:
Normally, the translator pops up on the upper right side, I select English and then as I scroll, it changes the video titles to English, so I know which matches to click on.
Not everything needs to be in English, just enough for me to know what video I’m clicking on. But now, the translator isn’t even appearing for me on VK. As a result, I also can’t use the video search function in English. Ex-USA wouldn’t work but CWA would. I only started having this problem after updating recently.
Update: Brave translator appeared on two of four new VK channels I opened in search for fencing. When I revisited my bookmarked VK pages, however, no translation option appears.
@NotAgain thanks for reporting and thank you for tagging me @Saoiray. I do know there is some weird behavior with Translate for sites like this but I don’t actually have an answer here. I’ve asked some of the folks who work on Translate to clarify for me.
Mattchismo, lemme know what they say. Ironically, I’d rather not have to learn a new language in order to watch the Olympics.
@NotAgain,
Our translate features ability to translate mixed content is still being improved and is likely the reason this is happening. Unfortunately there is no quick fix for this.
Even though it was working with mixed content before? It was translating vk video titles and occasionally pops up, but not reliably. Even if it’s mixed content, 1) the option to translate still needs to appear and 2) video titles need to be prioritized. Idk… thanks for the update. I guess I’ll have to memorize “Shelton” in Cyrillic / keep a copy of it somewhere in my Notes.
