- Brave stopped downloading files. v1.77.95 (Apr 2, 2025)
- Using with Ubuntu
- Work around was to turn off: “Ask where to download each file” in Brave settings.
@Stumpy are you saying that you resolved the issue and can now download content after step 3?
I wouldn’t say it’s resolved. After step 3, I am able to download…just don’t get an option where to download it.
@Stumpy so when you enable this option, what is the exact behavior?
When you try downloading a torrent file, actually, nothing happens. You are still on the torrent site page but nothing was downloaded.
@Stumpy and to confirm, this is the same behavior for all sites, not just that site (or other torrent sites)?
I think it is the same. I just went to the ESPN site and right-clicked, got the “save as” menu and nothing downloaded.
This is with the switch in Brave’s settings turned on.
Can you tell me how you installed the browser? Additionally, is Brave the only browser in which you’re seeing this behavior?
I do not remember how the browser was installed. Firefox operates normally on my computer. Brave is set as the main browser.
Hi, I’m facing the same issue on Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS. Brave v1.77.97 snap version. The issue is happening since last week. I updated the browser today, but it still happens.
On my Windows 10 device the issue does not occur.
@brnbc thank you for reporting.
@Stumpy can you try and recall if you installed the browser using the instructions from our website, or via a Snap or Flatpak?
Additionally, can you both try launching Brave from the Terminal and try downloading something and see if anything gets output in stderr
in the terminal?
Hi @Mattches. These are the terminal outputs:
[10487:10487:0411/084427.849507:ERROR:object_proxy.cc(589)] Failed to call method: org.freedesktop.Secret.Service.ReadAlias: object_path= /org/freedesktop/secrets: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied: An AppArmor policy prevents this sender from sending this message to this recipient; type="method_call", sender=":1.131" (uid=1001 pid=10487 comm="/snap/brave/496/opt/brave.com/brave/brave " label="snap.brave.brave (enforce)") interface="org.freedesktop.Secret.Service" member="ReadAlias" error name="(unset)" requested_reply="0" destination="org.freedesktop.secrets" (uid=1001 pid=2276 comm="/usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --daemonize --login " label="unconfined")

The first log shows at startup, the second one when I click the download button.
I am reposting your “terminal outputs” so they display fully:
