Any time I download a file in Brave, it is blocked and a temp file is created on my desktop and never finishes. I now see that all file downloads are blocked and I have to click each file again in the download menu to actually download. So I went and turned all security settings off to try and force the browser to download normally, but that does not help and it is still blocking. Is it still possible to download files in Brave normally?
I found some other posts that recommended enabling the flag āinsecure contentā from the site settings. But it appears that flag has been removed since those posts. Is there a new setting to allow file downloads in Brave?
@Utidiysyisitdixoxohd,
Not seeing any issues downloading files on my end. If youāve āturned off all the security settingsā including Safe browsing
and youāre still unable to download content, then something else is at play here.
This could be a particular extension you have installed or maybe an AV program on your system?
A good test here might be good to test downloads in the Beta build of the browser and see if they work normally there.
Meaning Iāve enabled āNo Protectionā that is supposed to allow downloads again. This states that it will not block downloads if enabled, but it acts the same whether enabled or not. Looked for the site setting āallow unsecured downloadsā like others have mentioned in other threads, but that option does not appear in site settings anymore. I was able to use Edge to download them, but thatās not a great solution. Oh well.
Also enabled āOverride download danger levelā and enabled āInsecure origins treated as secureā in experimental settings and relaunched. Still blocked. These are just a few small legit PDF files, very strange. Still poking around in experimental and other settings. Something changed today not sure what
Just going to quote what I mentioned earlier:
I have no extensions installed or enabled. I do not want to be a beta tester.
Iām not asking you to be a Beta tester. Iām asking you to test and see if the same issue happens in the Beta version of the browser. This will help narrow down the cause. If it does not happen in the Beta, then the issue is confined to your current install and/or browser profile. If the issue occurs in the Beta, then that points to the issue being either a bug in the browser itself or potentially some interaction occurring on your system.
I found the beta and installed, same issue. Its stange all of the downloads appear as incomplete files and say āInsecure download blockedā. Changing the security settings has no effect (turned off safe browsing)
Its explained in the UI as follows:
No protection (not recommended)
Does not protect you against dangerous websites, downloads, and extensions.
However it does still block downloads, so the explanation is not accurate.
@Utidiysyisitdixoxohd,
And to be clear, turning Safe Browsing
āonā does not resolve this issue?
@Utidiysyisitdixoxohd,
It looks like we actually do have an open issue for this here:
Yes but do you know if anybody has looked at it or is it being worked on at all?
I have also come to grief a few times with this āfeatureāā¦
I had a similar problem and just found a solution. (Laptop, Windows). I was able to download fine from other sites. Brave asks me where I want to save it. I looked up the meaning of non-SSL website and I donāt think Proton Drive would be one. When I attempted to download photos from Proton Drive, it acted like it was downloading and shows when it is complete, but it doesnāt ask me where I want to put them (and my setting is āask where to saveā¦ā). Additionally, I could not find it in my downloads. I have Safe Browsing set for Standard Protection. Under Site and Shield Settings, then automatic downloads, then customized behaviors, I added Proton Drive to allow automatic downloads and now it works! Maybe itās not the exact issue, but I hope it helps someone wanting to download multiple files at a time.
