When I do a search, and the results are listed and I choose/click on one of the results, can Brave open that page in a new tab (leaving the results on the original tab)? I can do this with Google Chrome, but can’t find this type of setting in Brave.

yes you can do it .go on settings page of brave search page and then you will find option there
https://search.brave.com/settings → Open links in new tab.
