Description of the issue: How can this issue be reproduced?
I have been using Brave for over a year without an issue. Randomly one day I started encountering this issue and cannot fix it Every time I launch Brave it opens one window with multiple tabs open (8 or so?). After about 3 seconds Brave quits, no error messages are received.
I’ve downloaded the newest version of brave and installed it, but the issue persists. I’ve attempted to uninstall it following the directions on the support website, but the BraveSoftware folder does not exist in the Library folder.
Hello @elusive007, thank you for reaching us out. Have you tried to delete cookies and cache? Are you using any extension? If so, please try by removing them or one by one to see which one can be causing the issue. let us know if that works. Regards.
Thanks for the response! Unfortunately I can not open Brave at all so there is no way for me to remove extensions, delete cookies, or clear cache via settings. Is there a way to clear cache or delete cookies through MacOS Finder?
@elusive007 I don’t use Mac, so forgive me if I’m about to ask something you can’t do. I’m also kind of ignoring part of your information in having you run this little test, assuming you can do it.
On Windows, we are able to have the Brave icon on our task bar, where you normally left click to launch. If we right click, it shows an options as you see below:
If you’re able to do the same, could you try launching it in New Private Window and see if it works?
I’m assuming an extension or one of your sites might be causing the problem. If true, opening on a Private Window should remain open with no issues. However, if it still quits/crashes, then it might point to another direction.
As to this part, IF we could keep your browser up, then it would be easy to find out where your folders are saved. You would go to brave://version which would show you something like you see below, which would show where your folder exists. (primarily would be looking at the Profile Path, at least up to the point of it showing where BraveSoftware folder is at.
Those are just random little thoughts for now, if you happen to see it. In the meanwhile, I’m going to try to see if @Mattches can check in with you tomorrow if not been resolved.
@elusive007,
Just to be clear, the user data (BraveSoftware) folder is actually in
~/Library/Application Support/BraveSoftware
which is perhaps why you’re not seeing it as you need to go one level deeper? Can you please reconfirm you’re looking in the right place? See my image below for comparison:
