Description of the issue:
Brave mobile is not able to display pdf. Using it on Pixel 2xl, latest version. It throws error, Can’t Open this file.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.
Just download a pdf and try opening it.
Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):

Expected result:
Pdf should open properly after downloading
Reproduces how often:
Every time
Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
Android 10; Pixel 2XL Build/QQ1A.191205.008

Viewing PDF in browser is not currently supported on Android. Default behaviour is to download the file.

Does that mean, I need to use another app for viewing the pdf after download.

You dont need to install any apps for viewing PDF. Android device should be able to handle it natively.

I have the same problem. Brand new note 10 android 10. Download pdf and it says “cant open file” no option to tell it to use acrobat. Just refuses to open.

How do I get it to work? Same problem on my wife’s phone too.

Don’t have this problem with chrome browser. Brave is set as default.

Can you please tell where you are trying to open the pdf from? Is it form the download page? Also if you can share a link of a file that is causing the issue it would be helpful

It resolved itself, curiously, on it’s own. Thanks for the quick response. Brave is, without a doubt, the best app I use on my phone.

Sure. The issue is not with the pdf. It is not able to open any pdf. When I download the same pdf with chrome, it is able to open it.

I managed to reproduce the issue on my Pixel 2 XL devices and created https://github.com/brave/browser-android-tabs/issues/2494.

As a workaround, can you try downloading the same PDF for a second time and see if you can open it after that?

Example:

You’ll initially get the following error which you’re currently experiencing:

When you download the same PDF for the second time, you should a similar modal/screen:

Once you click on Download, the PDF should open

@rajatbhatnagar glad the workaround is working! If you have a GitHub account, you can give the issue that I filed above a ++ so we know someone from the community is also having the issues. I also referenced this thread just in case We’ll try to address it as soon as we can.
