Brave issue with opening links in Chromium on MacOs Big Sur

Still experiencing this issue on Version 1.18.77 Chromium: 87.0.4280.101

On Google Chrome 87.0.4280.88 issue is not present.

Also tried Brave-dev and beta version, but both ‘quit unexpectedly’ when trying to open on Big Sur.

Any updates on this thread?

thanks

This issue also appears while having brave (Version 1.19.90 Chromium: 88.0.4324.146) set as the default browser on MacOS Big Sur 11.2 while simultaneously having TD Ameritrade’s thinkorswim app open (chromium based). As soon as I remove Brave and set either Chrome or Firefox as the default browser in the MacOS system preferences, the problem disappears.

I ran into this same problem today when I installed SiteBulb on my Mac Mini M1 running Big Sur 11.2.

Prior to running SiteBulb, links from Mail, Messages, etc would all open in Brave. Now that I am using SiteBulb, the system tries to open everything in Chromium.

I do not have the problem when I have Chrome set as the default browser - just Brave.
Version 1.19.92 Chromium: 88.0.4324.152 (Official Build) (arm64)

I prefer using Brave, but this is an unacceptable break. I would appreciate @Aa-ron or anyone from support dropping just a note letting us know that the team is looking at the problem.

Same issue here.

I have Google Chrome, and Google Chrome canary, Brave and Chromium installed.

When one of the other browsers including brave is the default, everything works as expected and that particular browser opens all links. When Brave is the default, Chromium opens all links. On Big Sur on a Mac M1

Thanks for mentioning that. It was useful for me to see because I have the exact same issue, and I didn’t notice the connection to other apps I was running until I saw your post.

When I am running either Tastyworks or Thinkorswim (both Chromium-based market trading apps), Brave fails to open links that I click in Thunderbird, but when I close those apps, Brave works again.

When I set other browsers than Brave as my default, everything works fine regardless of whether I am running Chromium-based apps like Tastyworks or Thinkorswim.

Me as well - took me a while to figure out until I found this thread that thinkorswim was the culprit. I found that chromium was in the bin directory of thinkorswim.

Do we have a solution for this issue?
Thanks

another one for this - recognized tastyworks was also the culprit. Works when closed.

Also found the underlying chromium app within a thinkorswim folder.

Not sure if anyone else experienced this as well, that chromium app continually asks for permissions to send notifications, 2 types.

Hello @lazarvgd,

I faced the same issue and when i re-installed the browser, the issue was no more there. Try doing that, hope it helps:)

You can also try resetting your browser though settings.

I’m having the same issue. If I force-kill the zombie Chromium app, subsequent links open correctly in Brave. Until then, they are directed to the zombie Chromium app (which does nothing).

I’m experiencing this as well. However, I have both Brave Beta and Nightly installed. It’s a work computer so I use Beta for all the work needs and this is the default browser. I use Nightly for personal browsing. All links are opening in Nightly. Doing a lot of copying and pasting now!

This issue also happens with Chromium itself. My Mac opens links in Chromium instead of Brave when I have Chromium running.
