Topic was previously named “Brave is Lagging a lot on YouTube Pages” but I realized it was lagging everywhere, hence renamed
Description of the issue:
When I open any YouTube video, the entire browser becomes laggy and if the cursor is on the video, the video turns blank. And is otherwise choppy and out of sync with audio. When cursor is moved away from the video, video comes back with the choppy/out of sync way.
Actual Result:
Entire browser becomes laggy and if the cursor is on the video, the video turns blank. And is otherwise choppy and out of sync with audio. When cursor is moved away from the video, video comes back with the choppy/out of sync way.
Expected result:
Video runs smoothly
Reproduces how often:
Every time since updated to v1.45.113 (Oct 25th, 2022) (basically since morning of 26th October)
Operating System and Brave Version:
Windows 11 v21H2 | v1.45.113 Chromium: 107.0.5304.62 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Additional Information:
Only happening ever since I updated Brave to v1.45.113. Tried disabling all extensions already. Tried restarting PC. Only current workaround seems to be disabling HW Acceleration.
Thank you for reaching out and for the detailed report. Sorry to hear you’re having trouble with Brave. Can you try disabling Hardware Acceleration in settings to see if this resolves the issue?
You’ll find this in Settings --> Additional Settings --> System --> Hardware Acceleration
At last, please try to open a new page using private mode or guest mode.
You can open a Guest Window by going to Main menu --> Open Guest window
Thanks for the response but I believe you didn’t read till the Additional Information section. I knew disabling HW Acceleration fixes this. But I want to keep it on. How do I revert back to older version? I’d like to stay on older version until this gets resolved.
I had also tried opening new page in private mode, same results.
Thank you for your reply . Since you didn’t mention that you wanted to keep enabled the Hardware Acceleration, I offered the option to disable it, however since you do want to keep it enabled, you can visit this link to install a previous Brave version.
Please let me know if this helps. I’ll be in the lookout.
Thank you very much. Could you help me with one last thing? Could you tell me how do I prevent Brave from auto-updating back to 1.45.116? I looked up other threads about it but couldn’t find a proper solution.
Also, if I choose to update to Beta version, will it override the stable build or work as its own separate browser? If it overrides the stable build and if the beta version doesn’t lag on YouTube, I can simply stay on beta and not worry about how to disable auto-updates since beta version is 1.46 as of right now
Just like last time, I figured out the solution to my own problem.
The proper fix is to simply go to brave://flags and search for Choose ANGLE graphics backend and select any option that works best for you. For me, everything failed except D3D9. Now I have HW Acceleration with no lagginess throughout the browser!
