Brave hangs on Mac

Sonoma 14.6.1. I had a problem with Brave on my Mac. It hung, I closed it and opened it again. On my Home Screen I had 3 copies of Brave as a file system. I moved them one at a time to trash. I tried again to open Brave by clicking on my task bar and got the message to send a dump. I pushed the wrong button and lost the opportunity. I again tried to open Brave by clicking on my task bar and the icon started jumping. I clicked again and nothing happened. I restarted Mac, now the Icon has been replaced with a question mark. There is no icon on Launchpad. I’m writing this on Safari. I have Nordpass installed but can’t find any reference to Brave hanging related to Nordpass.

It sounds like you’ve deleted the app from the system, which would explain why the icon shows a ? in the dock.

Can you try simply re-downloading and installing the browser from our website?

Thanks for the reply. This is all informational at this point. I was successfully able to download and install again. I agree, I may have deleted the app in my troubleshooting.

I regret not getting the dump at the time of the hang. I had been having some performance issues. I was using the performance monitor and seeing some high CPU at times on the graph but I was not able to identify the culprit. Eventually it was taking a long time to load pages, not able to discern problems at the host or the browser but several pages were slow. It got to the point where I restarted the browser with no success. Eventual it become unresponsive.

If this is TMI I apologize. I was an infrastructure guy running Redhat servers and was relentless in troubleshooting. A problem disappearing with a reboot was excruciating.
