Brave Experimental Adblock Rules no longer blocking twitch ads as of today (12/17/24)

Description of the issue:
Brave Experimental Adblock Rules setting no longer blocking twitch ads as of today (12/17/24). From what I understand when turning on the setting it would use a script called vaft that would block twitch ads and display a message saying (Blocking ads) in the top left of the player if the streamer played ads.

Exact URL of the website in question:

Screenshot of the ad as it appears in Brave:

Did the issue present with default Shields settings? (yes/no)
no?

Does the site function as expected when Shields are turned off?
Yes, it plays ads like it would if you had the setting off while previously you would get the top left showing (Blocking ads) in the player when using the setting.

Does the ad appear when using a Private window as well? (yes/no)
Yes

What OS are you using when you see the ad?
Windows 10

Brave version (check About Brave):
v1.73.101

I did not sign in; and I am not a member. I had no ad issues at:

Using and old Brave Browser (Mac OS 10.6.12) v1.41.100; settings:

  • Global tracking & ads: Aggressive
  • Global cookies: Block 3rd party
  • Global javascripts: Block
  • Global fingerprinting: Strict
  • Site specific javascripts: Allow
  • Private Window
  • 2 extensions enabled (using for private windows: enabled)

The extensions are simple, custom-built for editing html in a webpage, not:

  • anti-virus
  • adblocking
  • not Chrome extensions

if you’re not familiar with the site you will not understand how the ads work on it. Anything on ublock or changing the brave settings won’t block the players ads. You either need a proxy or the vaft script which the experimental adblock rule settings uses. The ads aren’t also guaranteed you have to enter a stream and either wait for an ad or try many.

Just using ad guard extra chrome extension for now until I see it’s fixed, legit does the same exact thing but works. If anyone comes by this and needs a fix here’s a github talking about it. https://github.com/pixeltris/TwitchAdSolutions or https://github.com/zGato/ScrewTwitchAds
