Brave Desktop (Windows) doesn't recognize YouTube's Fullscreen mode

Brave has recently stopped recognizing when the user exist a fullscreen Youtube video.

OS: Windows 11
Brave Version: Version 1.73.97 Chromium: 131.0.6778.108 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Steps to recreate

  1. Open Brave
  2. Navigate to Youtube
  3. Select and play a video
  4. Click the Fullscreen icon on the Youtube Video. The video will go to fullscreen
  5. Press the Escape (Esc) button to exit fullscreen. Youtube will exit fullscreen mode but Brave will remain in fullscreen mode, requiring you to press F11 to exit.

BB = Brave Browser

Be Prepared for Testing

After BB is running well, create an additional System Restore Point.

Clear cookies, cache, history, etc.

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to:

brave://settings/clearBrowserData

Select the Advanced tab

Set Time range to “All time”

ENABLE everything except:

  • Passwords and other sign-in data

(Myself, I would NOT make that exception)
(because I would have a backup prepared.)
(In other words, be prepared.)

Click on the “Clear data” button

Suggestion: Test your issue, using:

  • Brave Browser New Window
  • Brave Browser New Private Window

Works fine in Private Window. Still has same issue in New Window

@IHiJump,
Can you please update to the latest build (1.73.101) and let me know if the issue persists?

This appears to be resolved. Now, as of last night’s build, there is another youtube issue… I’ve opened a separate ticket for thath.

If it is the issue of ads appearing/the ad-block detection message showing, we have just released a fix for that, as stated here:
