Description of the issue:
I was using Brave browser a few minutes ago and everything was just fine then I see there is a new update. I downloaded Brave from Snapstore and updates happen behind the scenes. After relaunching the updates take effect. It seems there was an update a couple of hours ago i.e. version 1.29.79 latest/stable. When I open this new update, it opens with blank and black and I am unable to move forward from there since browser options cannot be accessed
Another thing I noted is when I open Brave, the fan seems to crank/speed up which may or may not indicate a lot of CPU usage going on.
Steps to Reproduce
- Download latest version of Brave from Snapstore - ver. 1.29.79 latest/stable
- Open Brave as usual from apps or with icon.
Actual Result:
Expected result:
Reproduces how often:
Every time I try to open the browser normally.
Operating System and Brave Version:
OS: Ubuntu 18.04.5
Brave Browser: Version 1.29.79 Chromium: 93.0.4577.63 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Additional Information:
My suspicions are this could be related to hardware acceleration being enabled. After doing some searches I found this: Error on yesterday’s update [Windows “blank window” issue]. So, I decided to try the same on Ubuntu by starting Brave from the terminal with:
brave --disable-gpu
I was able to now access Brave and I disabled hardware acceleration. After that, I closed Brave and I was able to open it normally.
Update**
Most of my extensions are not working. This happened after I ran brave --dsiable-gpu
.
