Brave browser keeps crashing on windows

Description of the issue: Brave browser keeps crashing after 10 secs or so
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Keep using the browser
  2. It suddenly crashes after a few secs without any error message
  3. Open it up again and restore the previous tabs
  4. Crashes again within seconds

Expected result: Not crash after reopening it and restoring tabs

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Version 1.45.116 Chromium: 107.0.5304.91 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:
This started happening today all of a sudden. I’ve been using brave for a couple of years and I’ve never experienced such crash before. And this issue is happening on both windows computers I have.
First PC:

Edition Windows 11 Home
Version 22H2
Installed on ‎9/‎29/‎2022
OS build 22621.674
Serial number MP23TG6P
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22634.1000.0

Second PC:

Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 21H1
Installed on ‎5/‎31/‎2021
OS build 19043.2130
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4180.0

Brave browser version is the same on both computers. And the two devices are in sync chain.

What I tried:
I’ve seen similar topics and similar problems asked in this forum but none of them helped. I tried everything mentioned.

  • Clearing browser data
  • Disabling extensions including VPNs
  • Disabling Use secure DNS in settings
  • Resetting my brave news preferences (also disabling Brave news. This worked for someone else on this forum for some reason, but didn’t do it for me)
  • Using private mode (still produces the problem)
  • Moving the folder cffkpbalmllkdoenhmdmpbkajipdjfam from ..../BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/User Data to the Desktop and reopening brave.
  • Stopping the sync chain

Unfortunately none of these could address the issue. Something I noticed is that brave browser on my desktop computer(my 2nd PC) crashes more often than my Laptop (1st PC).

I haven’t done anything new. Didn’t install any extension, didn’t change any browser settings it just started crashing out of the blue today. It’s been a couple of hours since this started happening. idk what went wrong.

It started working properly after I posted this topic lol. But sure, I’ve disabled cards… let’s see if it happens again.

Same issue here. Clearing cache etc. didn’t help.

I don’t even have to open a site for it to crash.

try disabling most of the stuff on your new tab dashboard. Cards, News, Stats… and see if that makes a difference. It just started working for me suddenly a few minutes after disabling Brave news and posting this. This is very unfortunate.

thanks, did that and so far it hasn’t crashed anymore… let’s keep fingers crossed I guess :slight_smile:

Super weird bug though that seems to have appeared out of nowhere today.

Also Having same issue.

Brave was working simply fine yesterday.
I didn’t shut down the computer, just awake from sleep today (Windows 10, 2 profiles each with 1 window Open. All windows were the same way I left them yesterday.)
Brave just started randomly crashing every 10 secs, I open it again and keeps crashing.

I have disabled cards/news and above waiting to see.

Yes, disabling cards/news works for now hasn’t crashed past few hours.
