Troubleshooting technical issues is much easier when both the user and support agent practice clear communication. For this reason, we have provided the template below for you to fill out with information about your issue. Please provide as much detail as possible so we can most efficiently resolve your problem.
Description of the issue:
When visiting a site with audio or video, unless the audio or video is manually stopped, closing the tab allows the sound to continue playing while browsing or even when no tabs are open. How can this issue be reproduced?
Visit a site with audio or video
Play audio or video
Do not pause/stop audio or video
Close tab
Expected result:
All audio and video would stop once the tab is closed. Brave Version( check About Brave):
1.74 Mobile Device details
iPhone 15, 256GB, iOS 18.3 Additional Information:
@vanillaspice can you please try launching Brave and going to Menu --> Settings --> Media and toggle Background audio “off” and test to see if the issue persists?
Note that the audio should stop when a tab is closed even if background audio is toggled “on” — but I’m curious to see if there is any issue with the setting. Additionally, can you confirm that this occurs with any site playing audio? How many have you tested?
Interestingly, background audio was already off and the behavior is not consistent. I noticed it yesterday but have not been able to reproduce it today.
And while it’s playing I hold on the tab button and click on „close tab“ and it keeps playing. Also had this with video chat platforms like ome.tv where the video calls continues to use camera + microphone even though you can only hear the sound, after you completely close the browser it stops of course. (It doesn’t happen everytime but I always close my tabs the same way by holding until the options are shown down there)
This is a major security issue especially for the video calls and needs to be fixed!
I was able to reproduce the problem. I will spare you the porn, but I took an additional step and opened iOS’s Control Center and found—as many in this forum have previously suspected—that iOS’s audio player was still playing (the pause icon visible) after the tab had been closed.
