All saved groups have disappeared!

I had some saved groups, and I could see them whenever I opened a new tab (I have the setting to show the bookmarks only on new tabs).

This morning I realised that all groups are gone. I opened a new tab, and groups are not shown in the bookmarks list.

What’s going on?

I updated Brave on my mobile devices yesterday. Before this update, the saved groups existed in my Macbook.

Does this problem have anything to do with the Sync update?

I see that on my Macbook, I had “Saved tab groups” sync on when I updated Brave on my mobile devices. Could it be that this new update synced group tabs with mobile devices, and because they have none, it deleted them on my Macbook?

I had the exact same issue today on my Windows version so I think it might have something to do with a version update (even though I don’t remember having updated in the recent past).

Please tell me that there is any way to recover the vanished group tabs T_T

I have the feeling that they are gone forever :frowning:

Somehow they reappeared. I’m not sure when, but it was definitely after I created a new group.

Really? Lucky you. I created a new group some hours ago, and the old groups never showed up.

@migsyboy,
Are the tab groups still appearing on your mobile device from which they are originally saved?

Hi! Thanks for your reply.

The saved groups existed only on desktop.

Only after I updated brave on both my iPhone and iPad, the saved groups have disappeared on desktop.

I check the sync settings, and I had ‘everything’ set on desktop, so my suspicion is that Brave synced with the mobile devices, and because the mobile devices had no saved groups, they were deleted.

It’s only a suspicion. I really don’t know what’s happened, but it’s quite annoying as I had a few saved groups. And now I am not sure it’s worth the hassle to create new ones, to be honest.

Thanks.

Unless the data is actually deleted by a user, Sync cannot overwrite/delete data — so if you didn’t change anything then Sync is not at fault here unless there is a bug at play.

On your Desktop, do you not see the groups/tabs in those groups listed when you go to Menu --> History (under Recent tabs)?

Hi @Mattches. No, the groups are not present in History. I see some tabs that were part of those groups, but not the groups.

If sync wasn’t the cause, then I have no idea what the problem has been. But it’s quite annoying.

Is this the first time that this issue has occurred? Have you created any more tab groups and if so, are they still there?

Yes, this is the first time this issue has ever occurred.

Yesterday I created a new group (to test) and it’s still there.

But I have second thoughts about recreating them all, only to lose them again eventually.

This also just happened to me! All of my saved tab groups disappeared. They’re not under recent tabs. I never accessed them on mobile or even looked at my mobile tabs.

Nearly up to date! Relaunch Brave to finish updating.
Version 1.68.141 Chromium: 127.0.6533.120 (Official Build) (arm64)

All my saved tabs are gone also, with info I wanted to save for future reference. Can I undo the latest BRAVE update? Would that help?
I use iPad Air.
I used BRAVE on my old iPad 6th generation.
BRAVE was transferred to my new iPad.
Was it updated recently?
It is very annoying to have lost all my saved ‘tabs’ containing important information.
Should I (can I) undo the latest version of BRAVE, and would that solve my problem? PLEASE HELP.

I don’t know how Brave stores the groups, but it would be great if they were persisted in files or similar, just so it would be easy to recover them.

I find really strange that all my saved groups disappeared out of the blue, with no way to recover them.

If it helps diagnose the issue, I don’t use a User Profile.

I have seen great delays in my Tab Groups re-appearing between browser restarts and over updates/upgrades.

I did find a small add on called Tab Groups to Bookmarks [Google Chrome Store link, fyi] that lets me save and sync them in a bookmark hierarchy. Wish I didn’t have to, but I feel a little safer with my tab groups.

Note: This does require a manual step to sync Tab Groups when changes occur.

So @Mattches , should I assume then that my saved groups are gone forever?

I had some groups that I really wanted to keep, plus it’s not very reassuring to know that groups can disappear for no reason.

I would appreciate your advise.

Thanks!

Not sure what to tell you here as there isn’t a lot to go off of. Tab groups, as far as the browser is concerned are just a list of tabs. As such, they should appear in the Recent tabs section when you go to Menu --> History — they should appear here even when the browser crashes or is quit entirely so that they can be restored.

Unless you cleared your browsing history they should have shown up there and you should have been able to restore the Window you had open last, including the group tabs.

If they are not there then I’m not super clear on what happened. It is possible that an extension that you have installed may have caused some conflict — do you have any installed at this time?
