Tips regarding Brave Shields:
I have more success, with:
- Brave Shields UP
- Either Allow All Cookies or Block 3rd Party Cookies, but NOT Blocking All Cookies
- Allowing JavaScripts from specific sources, but NOT Allowing All JavaScripts
- Trackers & Ads treatment: Aggressive (at first), and then incrementally relaxing that setting
- Fingerprinting (aka footprinting) blocking: Strict (at first), and then incrementally relaxing that setting
I almost NEVER use:
- All of Brave Shields UP
- All of Brave Shields DOWN

Same issue as OP. No vpn. Tried all the above also. Last time this was a big issue I had to reinstall..
edit for clarity: had to reinstall Brave because lists somehow completely disappeared. I still have lists now and updated but the issue persists
I have not tried to configure shields, but did get frustrated before after clicking the lion button to disable shields and it still didnt work. then also did âallow all trackers and adsâ switch on top of that and still get the big error box like OP.
Tried it again just now, seems to be fixed.

@L86 if you go to brave://components, please confirm what the Brave Ad Block Updater version shown is.
I also am facing the very same issue, tried to update everything but the issue persists. What I find interesting is that refreshing the page a few times allows the player to load normally.
Brave Version is v1.77.101
Brave Adblocker Update is 1.0.11828

For anyone whom this might be useful - I am having a similar issue where youtube was showing ads but I realised Brave Shields appears to be down instead of active (screenshot) although it is âonâ.
Going to brave://components/ showed me that 5 components (4 shown in screenshot, Safety Tips is not shown) have âVersion: 0.0.0.0â or I guess no such data/component?
Relaunching Browser did not fix it, restarting Laptop did not either, and this was working last Friday (25th) but had an update this morning when I brought the laptop out of hibernation, after which i have this issue on version -
Version
Version 1.77.101 Chromium: 135.0.7049.115 (Official Build) (64-bit).
Windows 11 23H2 education
Interestingly, launching Brave with admin privileges allowed the components^ to update! But once I relaunched Brave without the admin privileges, those 5 components went to Version: 0.0.0.0 
and the ad blocking ceased to occur
@rajisg please see @cliftonâs response on the following issue:
For everyone else, please remember that Youtube vs ad-blockers is an ongoing battle and it is expected that there will be times that ads appear on Youtube as they find different ways to detect different ad-blockers and filters.
The team is aware of the issue and is always working to update Shields to work with Youtube again. I would however like to know whether or not users in this thread are still seeing this issue and, if so, whether setting your Shields to Aggressively block ads and trackers makes any difference.

Went through the components list to update everything again and the issue persists.
Edit: also, with agressive there is no change. Just as there is no change for me whether shields are on or off. Also ran as admin for why nots, updated components again and no change. Even with shields off my pc has no access to yt videos via brave which is interesting. No big loss really as there are other access methods, and I avoid yt heavily anyway.
Maybe I will reinstall brave at some point but it is lame losing stats.. again.

I followed the instructions and went ahead and ticked the Replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object box and clicked Apply even though my user account was already listed as the owner.
And once i clicked OK to close the âAdvanced Security Settings for User Dataâ (the window where the tick box is) and clicked OK on âUser Data Propertiesâ, I checked Brave components and they could update
Didnât even need to restart the Browser 
and now shieldâs are working fine.
So guys maybe if shields seem down for you for all websites (not just youtube), try the steps mentioned here (same link Mattches has given above)
Edit: Just noticed Brave Ads Resources (LK) component hasnât updated and gives âUpdate errorâ when you click âcheck for updateâ, but the other components update without issue. A non-issue for me personally as long as web browsing isnât impacted. Just mentioned in case it is helpful to anyone

Shields seem to block ads on other websites fine for me. Though I did have that problem last time. I can access yt fine via edge (with ads) but ya, no thanks.
Iâll try the other suggestions at some point probably, thanks.
