Description of the issue:

The videos on this page are auto-palying when I have that set to disabled.
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Visit the following website: https://abc7ny.com/jeff-beck-dead-obit-famous-deaths-2023-yard-birds/12689980/
  2. The videos automatically play at the top and when scrolling.

Expected result:

The videos would not play until I click on the video to play.

Hello there @dbcommunity thanks for your report and please accept my apologies for this issue. Could you please provide me with the MacOS version you are currently using?

In the meantime, try opening your main profile in private or guest mode to see if the videos no longer load. If they do not load, try disabling your extensions to see if this is the cause of the issue.

You can open a Guest Window by going to Main menu → Open Guest window:

  1. On your computer, open Brave.
  2. At the top right, click Menu → More tools → Extensions.
  3. On to the extension you want to remove, click Remove.
  4. Confirm by clicking Remove.

Let me know if that works.

I don’t have any extensions installed. I am on version MacOS 13.1.

I tried running this in guest and in private. Issue still happens. The videos autoplay.

Hi again @dbcommunity please try installing the Beta or Nightly version of Brave to see if the issue persists on those versions.

@Kevin_cc

I just downloaded Brave Nightly and tried going to that website. The videos still auto-played. I do have autoplay set to disable.

Thank you!

@dbcommunity does adding that page to sites that can play insecure content? You can do it by going to brave://settings/content/insecureContent > Not allowed to show insecure content > add the site > click :arrow_forward: /> Sound and Images set to block.

Let me know if that works.

@Kevin_cc

Thanks for the response. I tried what you mentioned and it still auto-plays.

@dbcommunity could you please try opening that page on a different chromium based browser to see if that makes any difference?

It does auto-play on other browsers as well. I was thinking with the auto-play set to block, it would prevent websites from auto-playing the video. There are quite a few websites which autoplay the video. Another example is the website below.

@dbcommunity could you please double-check on Menu --> About Brave to see if you have the latest version installed on your device?

@dbcommunity,
We’ve added your report to an issue we’re investigating presently which can be viewed here:
