No. (And 20 chars to make this message pass through)
Sriram, Nope, did not have the Private mode set
Thanks for the input guys. We are looking into the issue right now.
But if this is the world we are confronting (https://nordvpn.com/blog/wifi-scanning-hack/), we have no choice but to be on vpn. Always.
good article. Iāve installed cloudflareās 1.1.1.1 app on my iphone, which installs a VPN profile - whenever Iām off my home wifi, I get the VPN icon - even on my providerās data network, but especially when Iām on other (public) wifi.
back to the threadās topic - I upgraded my iphone 6 on 12.4.1 when I saw word of this update on reddit this morning, and on first launch, the tabs I had took a (long to me) moment to re-appear. the bookmarks are there too.
Iāve never had problems updating brave, either on linux (lubuntu) desktop or my iphoneā¦I hope the devs can get this resolved for those who have/do.
@heysoundude Thanks for confirmation. When you say it took a long time could you be more specific on the time? Also did you have a lot of tabs open before upgrade?
Others on the thread could also comment on the number of tabs they had before migration. We are investigating the issue and should have fix once the root cause is found.
There were a dozen tabs, give or take, and the time couldnāt have been longer than 10-15 seconds. As I recall, they reappeared after I got out of the settings menu and turned on dark mode (my eyes and battery thank you). Also, the app wasnāt open/in memory when I did the upgrade, and I power cycled after it was complete
Sriram, I had maybe 18 tabs open and the setting was set to show tabs only in landscape mode.
Honestly i do not remember the exact number of tabs i had in my bookmarks, brave was not in use/memory and no tabs opened at all when i updated it.
Iām glad Iām not the only one who had this problem.
Both iPadās wiped of all browsing data after the latest update, first time its ever happened since I first installed the app.
Appreciate all the replies and information here. We are still digging into this. Oddly, reproducing this has been pretty difficult for us.
Has anyone here had their data re-wiped on subsequent launches at all?
iPhone 7 Plus.
Regular updates to brave and iOS. It was in memory, lost all bookmarks and home screens.
Not using any vpn
Nope, been using the browser since launch on iOS and itās all been ok until the very latest update
Joel, no re-wipe has occurred.
Could your updater have any condition(s) related to whether the phone is plugged in.
FYI, my 6S update was successful (not on VPN) and 7 did not update successfully. The 6S was not plugged in.
Iāll continue to noodle on the update diffs between the two phonesā¦
When i started the update my iphone wasnāt plugged in, seems that the only common thing is that everyone has IoS 12.4, i have an SE and all bookmarks gone when i opened BB after the update.
Quick question folks. Was 1.11.4 the first install or did you have previous versions installed and just have been updating to the new versions?
1.11.4 was not the first version I had installed. Not sure how far back I went, but had been faithfully installing updates regularly without issue prior to 1.12.
And again, Iām on IOS 12.2, so itās not specific to 12.4. And no VPN, so itās not that. I had about 6 tabs open if I recall correctly. Was not using Private mode at the time.
At least a year since first installation.
Ah, just found my original install date for Brave on iOS ā Jul 23, 2018.
This is available in App Store > My Purchases.
No this isnāt the first version of brave browser i got, i cannot find into app store my history with purchases so i cannot tell from which version iāve started to update. Iāve constantly updated my version of BB due to bookmarks
EDIT: found out that first time iāve installed BB was on June 2018
Odd question: isnāt possible to make a downgrade releasing again the previous version?
