Hi! When watching this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLXLChFR2ak in 1440p with an external USB audio dongle (HiFime Sabre 9018 DAC), the video plays back too slow, causing massive amounts of dropped frames and stuttering (when the code tries to resync to audio, which is fine). When turning off hardware acceleration the same problem happens but it stutters so fast it almost looks ok. I think the video and audio sync code needs to be looked over. When switching to audio via HDMI the playback is OK.
Using latest brave (1.27.109) on windows 10 with an Nvidia GPU. Chrome does not show this problem.
Turning off shields for youtube did not help. However, I see in the Windows task manager that Brave is using “GPU engine: 3D” while Chrome is using “GPU engine: Video Decode” which works better. It looks like Brave is using some type of shader video decoder while Chrome is using the builtin hardware video decoder of the Nvidia chip (a 3080ti). Could Brave also be changed to use the hw video decoder like chrome?
@henke,
Hmm very interesting. Let me reach out to someone more versed in GPU behavior than I am. In addition, can you tell me if you have any extensions installed at this time?
