Description of the issue:
Yesterday I dowloaded an update to Brave. After the install, when I go to YouTube, I do not get a visual picture when I play a video. The audio plays, but all I get is a white screen/image for a picture. This is the case for every Youtube video I’ve opened.
I went to the Page settings and switched flash player from ‘block’ to ‘allow’ but that did not solve anything.
Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.
Go to youtube and click on a video
Video page opens, the video starts playing audio, but there is only a white picture, no image
Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):
Expected result:
As you can see in the above image, there is no video picture in the video box
Reproduces how often:
Everytime
Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
Windows 10 Pro
Brave version: Version 0.70.121 Chromium: 78.0.3904.70 (Official Build) (64-bit)
@walkerdm,
Thanks or reaching out to us. Testing on my end, Youtube plays without issue on Windows 10 in Brave stable (v0.70.121).
Can you try clearing cache/site data for Youtube and then trying to stream? Do this by going to youtube, clicking the “lock” icon in the address bar --> Site Settings --> Clear data
If that doesn’t work, I would try disabling Hardware Acceleration to see if that resolves the issue. Let me know what you find out.
@walkerdm,
If you visit other sites that you can stream video content on – viemo or Twitch for example – are you able to stream both audio and video on these sites?
Update: I just found that I have no problem watching Youtube videos embedded on other sites. I still can’t watch them when its on the youtube.com domain.
@walkerdm,
Can you tell me if you have any extensions installed at this time? Also, if you open a Private window and go to Youtube, do you get the same results?
Same results in private mode. I opened the extensions page, the following extensions it said were active: Brave Wallet, WebTorrent, Hangouts, and Widevine. I disabled them all and still no change.
I found a solution (almost by accident)! I found a thread on reddit and one of the comments said to clear the cookies on the site by going to youtube > Brave > Clear CSS rules for this site. Now I have picture!
I think it might have to do with the fact that in the last browser version, I blocked a bunch of elements on the Youtube page because I hated having those “next video” boxes pop up at the end. Maybe it blocked the visual element in this version, I don’t know.
@walkerdm,
Excellent sleuthing! I’m glad you figured it out. We’re working on getting a visible list of CSS rules that have been applied to a site(s) via the context menu filter so this type of issue is easier to spot.
Appreciate your support!
