Youtube adverts are not being blocked from 9th Dec 2024

Description of the issue:
Youtube now has ads.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Play a youtube video.

Expected result:
No ads.

Brave Version( check About Brave):

Version 1.73.97 Chromium: 131.0.6778.108 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:

As far as I know, this effect appeared without any modifications in browser or extensions.
I have now tried (without success):
upping the ad blocking to aggressive
trying a new window
trying a new private window
disabling all extensions
Youtube seems to always (almost always?) put an advert right at the start of a video, then at least one more in the middle.

Please edit your Original Post (“OP”) above, to include your computing device Operating System.

Please report if you have tested:

  • Brave Browser New Window
  • Brave Browser New Private Window
  • Disabling extensions that you have installed
  • Creating an additional Brave Browser Profile for testing your issue (and what you learned)

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to:

brave://settings/shields

Verify that “Trackers & ads blocking” is set to block (somehow) instead of allow.

@289wk I made the additions that you requested, a few days back.

@Big_Monkey ,

When I use an iPhone and Brave Browser, Private Browsing Only mode (aka incognito), Brave Browser [Global] Settings:

  • Trackers & ads blocking: Aggressive
  • Upgrade connections to HTTPS: Standard
  • Block scripts: Enabled
  • Block all cookies: Disabled

Visit “youtube.com” and adjust Brave Shields [icon]:

  • Block scripts: Disabled

And sometimes see an in-video ad (sometimes 2 ads); and I wait a few seconds; then click the Skip button, and proceed.

I get the same issue, when using a computer with Brave Browser, as well as using the iPhone.

I do not know what could otherwise be done about the YouTube in-video ads.

@Big_Monkey,
First, please update to the latest build of the browser (v1.73.101 at the time of writing this). Then, go to brave://components and ensure that the Brave Ad Block Updater component is fully up to date (you can click Check for update to make sure).

Then try streaming youtube content again and let me know if the issue persists.

I was having the same issue. When I looked at brave://components I saw that “Brave Ad Block Resources Library” said update error. Running Brave as Admin fixed the issue and allowed me to manually check for an update.

I just allowed the latest update (that problem seems to have been the previous update) and the problem looks like it’s gone away. Thank you for the suggestions, guys.
