I’ve got the same issue.

I turned on Fanboy Annoyances List on either Ublock Origin or Brave Ad Block. That took care of the white boxes

Also the same issue, I assumed it was some kind of memory issue with this older windows 7 machine I’m running it on, 3gb of memory with it mostly been eaten up. Started a week or 2 ago. Super annoying, happens a lot on youtube live streams when the chat is open.
