Where to add domains so cookies don't get deleted on browser close?

Previously I could add domains so that their cookies wouldn’t get deleted when I closed the browser. Now I can’t find this option, and the closest I get is adding domains that can use third-party cookies.

Not sure if this is the right answer but if you have it to delete all cookies on closing as standard and then on the sites you want to keep go to the Brave Shields lion (when you are on the site), click on it and on the last item, Forget me when I close this site, move the slider to the left.

Thanks for trying to help. That setting is off (left) by default on all sites I checked. It’s so strange that they would remove the option to add “whitelisted” domains.

Apologies as not sure if we are talking at cross purposes or not.
In Settings, Shields, Forget me when I close this site - IE the global default, is set to the right position so on.
I then use the Lion logo to switch specific sites to off which effectively whitelists them.

This was recommended by one of the support team as I used to have to go through and delete loads of individual site cookies before.

@Bravealized agree it’s weird. So I guess Kanga is suggesting a good workaround. I think they kind of explained well but I’m going to break it down a bit more just in case it helps.

If you go to SettingsShields, which is brave://settings/shields, you’ll see all the global options. That is, these are the default settings that will take place on all websites.

Just under the toggle for Block cookies settings is the global option for Forget me when I close this site. If you have this enabled there, then it would do that for all websites.

In comparison, you have the Shields lion image button you can press that’s in the URL bar. This pulls up options that will be applied only to the website you’re visiting. The URL is also always shown. For example:

What changes you make there can be different than the global settings and will only be applicable to that particular website.

Rehashing all of that for clarity, they are saying to enable it to forget you on sites from the global settings and then just change the site specific setting for the places you’d like to keep you logged in.

Thanks! I’ll just accept this as the solution.

There is one additional step you must take in addition to the Forgetful Browsing setting. To stay logged in on sites, you also need to add sites to: Settings > Privacy & Security > On-device site data > Allowed to save data on your device.

LOL that is basically the same, but now they call it “Allowed to save data on your device” instead of “Allowed to save cookies on your device”

Wow, I feel dumb not having seen it. I do go crazy with how so many little things change and they don’t do a solid job of helping us realize the changes and how to navigate through it. It’s part of where I was complaining about the overall UX to some of the developers and staff at Brave . Whether it be things like this, bookmarks changes, changed location of import/export passwords, the struggle with Wallet in regards to gas prices and other errors, appearance changes of tabs, etc.

The User Experience (UX) just doesn’t always get the time and attention it deserves. We inherit a lot of things from Chromium but without any real heads up. But as they have mentioned, Brave doesn’t have the staff for it and are doing the best they can with what they have. The browser works and does more than I think many of us are aware, but if it’s not all easy to see and navigate around then I’m not sure what to say.

Anyway, I’m glad @jaybird pointed out what we missed and that things have been resolved.

Apologies if this is the wrong place but I have just started experimenting with Linux Mint again. Do you know, or can you find out, why the

line is absent on that build?

Version 1.63.174 Chromium: 122.0.6261.128 (Official Build) unknown (64-bit)

For this part, I’d have to tag @Mattches to see if he can advise. He’ll know more on if all versions indeed should have it or when it will land. I thought it was available for all, but if you’re saying it’s not then just have to ask someone from Brave, especially since I don’t use Linux.

This option has been removed from the browser and is no longer available. The proposed solution above is the correct workaround at this time. Further, I opened an issue a while back for our developers to consider that would add the ability to add exceptions:

Oh, really?

@Mattches it is still there all be it buried in Site and Shield settings- Additional Content settings. That’s in Win 10 just updated -
Brave is up to date

Version 1.64.109 Chromium: 123.0.6312.58 (Official Build) (64-bit)

My question was however why the “Forget me when I close this site” line is not available on the build downloaded on Linux Mint - I think it is a flatpack…

My apologies — then this feature will likely be removed in future updates (I thought this change was going into the latest update).

@kanga it looks like we’re seeing a bug where Linux profiles don’t initially show this option but it does appear after a browser restart. I’m wondering if the fact that you’re using the flatpak version is stuck in that first state of the bug.

Can you please try downloading the browser via apt as per the official download instructions?

@Mattches have deleted the original install and reinstalled from the link via apt - Forget me etc is now available as a setting.

The reason I had a flatpack version was that one of the first things I did was to add Brave via the installed software manager process from within Mint. I did not even realise at first it was a flatpack…
You may want to consider that issue as for new Linux adopters it is the easiest and most obvious way…
