When I try to log into https://proton.me/mail it redirects me to the .onion version of the page

Description of the issue:
When I try to log into https://proton.me/mail it redirects me to the .onion version of the page and opens it in a private browser using tor. This happens for a few webpages including brave.com

How can this issue be reproduced?

1. using the brave browser open https://proton.me/mail and click Sign in
2. i get directed to https://account.protonmailrmez3lotccipshtkleegetolb73fuirgj7r4o4vfu7ozyd.onion/login

Expected result:
I would be able to open the page without using a private window

It was a browser setting.
Settings → Privacy and Security → Tor windows → Automatically redirect .onion sites on/off
