I really like the idea of brave forking qwant maps and integrating it into their search engine, it would be best to try and do this without making the qwant devs mad though

Also it would be great to encourage users to improve open street maps with any info not included in it

And maybe include a toggle to optionally include data from mapbox, google maps or any other mapping service if you can, but if not, a fallback to google maps is not a bad idea

Qwant maps is not extraordinary. It just uses openstreetmaps (OSM) under the hood.

Brave already uses OSM in its maps section. So, it does even need to fork Qwant in the first place.

I love and use open street map with organic maps on mobile, and while qwant maps does use open street map as its dataset, I don’t think that brave using openstreetmap.org is good for the search engine, since openstreetmap’s UI looks archaic compared to qwant maps. It’s a great idea for brave to fork qwant maps since as well as the interface being a lot better in terms of design, this would also allow brave to have a mapping service with almost no upfront investment

OSM is great, I just would like to see less grain, and a more clean map, overall.

True to some extent.

They can use OSM database at backend, make it easier to edit brave maps (POI) like we do it on google maps and indirectly benefit the overall OSM database.

If you edit something in brave maps, it will be automatically be transferred to OSM.

Now Brave Search provides a full screen map, e.g. NYC.
