@oceans99 you may want to go through the basic troubleshooting steps to see if it works properly in any of the steps. Each of these steps are separate, so only do one at a time. They each look for something different:

  • Disable Shields - This checks if it’s something in that causing it to break

  • Open in private window - This is a test to see if it’s cookies or extensions.

  • Open a new browser profile - This tests the same thing as private window, but just a little more. You test this when it’s still broken in private window. If it works in a new profile, then it means it’s likely something in your settings.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for that.

Turned off the Shield and still no good.
Yes private mode works ok.

What could be causing that then?

Then as I mentioned, it’s either an extension you’re using that is creating a conflict or it’s a “bad” cookie.

There are three potential steps you may have to take. I’m going to start simplest to most annoying. Hopefully just the first step is all you need.

Attempt #1: Disable extensions

If you’re using extensions, try to disable them and see if you notice an improvement. If you do, then that confirms it’s an issue. And to be clear, even if an extension wasn’t a problem before, sometimes updates on either the extension or the browser can create issues.

Just go to brave://extensions/ and toggle them off.

Attempt #2: Cookies/Site data for that website only

If disabling the extensions doesn’t have an impact, then you would need to clear cookies. You can first just try to clear it for the site only. You can do this by clicking the image that appears on the left of your search bar and then click on Cookies and site data → Manage On-device Site Data and hit the trash can for everything you see listed there.

I’ll give you an example in screenshots below, but you’ll want to do this on the website that you’re having issues with.

Attempt #3: Purging all cookies

If, after doing that and refreshing, it still has issues, then you’ll have to clear all cookies. So go to Delete Browsing Data → Change timeframe for All Time → Make sure only cookies and site data and don’t select other options → Delete Data. Be advised this will log you out of all websites and you’ll have to login again.

Ok I’ll try these steps. Thanks for your help Stephen.
