Embedded Vimeo Videos work on iPhone, but not iPad.
Hello @Jay_Sch
Thank you for reaching us and I’m sorry to hear you are going through this. Could you please share the following information:
1 - What kind of iPad you have, which iOS version?
2 - Have you updated to the latest Brave version?
If this a desktop computer (found at brave://version) to download the most recent one (https://brave.com/download/)
3 - A screenshot of the issue (optional)
Be waiting for your response!
@Jay_Sch I have a few questions, if you could answer:
-
What happens when you try to play Vimeo videos on your iPad? I mean, are you getting any particular types of errors, does it load black, or what?
-
Is it only Vimeo where you’re experiencing issues or does this happen on other sites as well, such as YouTube?
-
Does toggling Shields have any impact?
-
If you try to play it in Chrome, does it play? (helps figure out if Chromium issue or Brave issue)
-
Always kind of good to know, which version of Brave are you using? (I’m assuming the latest, which might be
1.45.2
but it’s good to verify)
Thanks for responding. The site in question is a golf coaching subscription site. This site has loads of short videos that work fine. But, the do a monthly hour long webinar that gets posted. I can watch these on my iPhone, but not my iPad. I’ve talked directly to the developer who is confused. Please see below:

@Jay_Sch According to Vimeo, https://vimeo.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115015677227-Troubleshoot-player-error-messages#h_01FZGYDEC0GWD1RN569GF7AYR7
“Player error: The player is having trouble”
If this error appears, we are currently investigating a problem on our side. Please contact us ASAP if you continue to see this error.
So you may want to contact them, as they are making it sound like that particular error message means it’s an issue on their end.
Of course, it would help if you make sure to provide all the answers to things I asked you in my prior reply, so can rule out a few possible issues if it might be something within the app.
NOTE
Not said prior, but you could try to clear cookies in case it’s something there. But these are all troubleshooting steps just to check browser side issue. If Vimeo is right and it’s an issue on their side, then might not see progress if you go through everything I listed before and now.
Thanks for the info. I will follow up with them and try clearing cookies.
I may have accidently resolved the issue.
There is a setting called “Always request Desktop Site”, which was turned on. I turned it off and the video player instantly worked. I don’t think I ever messed with the setting in the past.
Hey @Jay_Sch
I’m happy that the issue is solved and thanks for sharing the answer, if you have any additional question let us know. Have a great day!
Thanks! The website developer called Vimeo to let them know. I don’t see that setting on the iPhone Brave app.
