Edit: I don’t even know if I mentioned it at this point, but it happens without extensions too.
Also for some reason, as of now, it happened at about every search for a short period of time. I don’t know what causes these bursts.
I’m not asking you to change your workflow, just to test the Beta and see if the same behavior occurs. Since it does not, the issue is very likely related to your profile/current install specifically, rather than it being a Brave issue.
I’ll be sure to inform our devs about this and see if anyone has an idea of what might be going on.
We can’t even import anything from stable to beta. Who the hell thought this up?
I’m not going to test something without a profile set up the way I need it.
“It’s not a Brave issue, it’s your profile” - lol. I suppose you should disable settings for the browser entirely, then you’ll have a point.
When a user has a buggy/unstable profile and testing a clean profile. If we asked a user to test in Brave Beta or Nightly, last thing we would want is importing potentially a buggy profile in.
It can be done manually via just renaming the profile folders or copying over the profile folders.
No other browser has imports between the unstable builds. But see the previous responses if its a profile issue and just importing changes that would also affect it.
I use Brave (release) as my main browser for testing, since 99% uses are on this. But have Beta and Nightly installed for testing since its isolated from release.
From every problem that I’ve posted, none had been solved. This issue in particular got so bad that I think I’ve got permanent trauma from wasting countless hours (order of tens probably) and frustration. Brave went from being the best option out there, to the worst option, and all from an issue that popped on all of a sudden (like I mentioned), but never went away.
So, there’s only one way:
Close brave.
Go to C:\Users(your username)\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data
Make a copy of the folder somewhere else to save the data just in case. Delete Brave. Delete it from registry also. Install another browser. Issues solved.
Check back in 5 years when better support is present, unless Brave is no longer a browser.
The problem with testing a clean profile on a new build is obvious - I won’t know the cause of the problem. It won’t even tell me if it’s the build or the profile.
If importing can be done manually, then why not just give us an automatic option…
@Memory If you can still check, or maybe you’re able to recall: what “Brave colors” (theme) option did you use? Was it “Dark” or “Same as Windows”? I haven’t had the issue for two days now despite googling a lot, and I think that’s when I switched from from “Dark” to “Same as Windows”.
i m here to confirm this only happens to me in brave. i ve tried it in edge and firefox and those are fine. in my google search settings, it changes my “results region” from united states back to “current region” and i start seeing french search results again. when i set it to US, it automatically switches back over to current region. it doesnt happen in other browsers, so i guess i can also confirm it isnt a regional issue. i m in france, for reference… also, it happens with shields down as well. no matter what i do, i cant keep it from happening. another thing that happens is sometimes my search results change from dark mode to white.
