Brave will now not update automatically or manually, successfully. How do I fix this? Here’s the error message:
An error occurred while checking for updates: Update check failed to start (error code 3: 0x80004002 – system level).

Did you download thru github? I hear this is a problem. I have Brave downloaded on a Windows PC thru Chris Titus Tech powershell and I cannot update either.
@Highpockets Which method are you using to update the browser manually?
I used the brave.com/download webpage with the download button. Even downloaded the beta 1.24 version.
This, after I uninstalled Brave completely, and flushed any remains in the HDD and from the Registry on a Win7 Dell Vostro laptop. The update error message still shows.
On a Win10 Dell desktop I do get a successful “Brave is up to date” message.

To confirm, right now, if you download and install Brave on the Windows 7 machine, what version gets installed?
Having installed the Beta version, 1.24.76 is installed now on Win7.
