Unable to cast in fullscreen from Brave to new "Google TV with chromecast"

Description of the issue:
I can successfully cast a tab to my pretty new Google TV with Chromecast device. However, casting gets broke any time I fullscreen the video in the tab or cast from a video source that would fullscreen on the Google TV.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Open a tab with a video source
  2. Cast the video to the Google TV with Chromecast
  3. Hit fullscreen and note it disconnects

Expected result:

Should go fullscreen and keep casting

Brave Version( check About Brave):
[Version 1.74.48 Chromium: 132.0.6834.83 (Official Build) (arm64)

Additional Information:
This works correctly in the latest chrome so it’s likely not a Google TV bug

I have been having the same issue since late 2024. I found this Chromium issue that seemed to be related: https://issues.chromium.org/issues/373759995

My current workaround is downgrading to a version of Brave before Chromium v130. I downloaded the dmg from this link and casting screen works again: https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/releases/tag/v1.70.126

I tried to upgrade to latest as of Jan 22, 2025, and the issue is still not resolved in the latest Brave version.

This says devices not appearing. But it does usually appear. And the cast usually works, just not in fullscreen

I understand that the issue described in the bug isn’t the same, but I have the same problem as you and it fixed it. Give it a try.

Clarification: Brave should definitely fix this bug, but I just wanted to share the workaround/version downgrade that allowed me to cast full screen again.

Is this all websites or particular? Can you share one of the sources?

I tried testing on YouTube and it just annoyingly opened the YouTube app and played from there.

But then I went to https://hianime.to/watch/magic-maker-how-to-make-magic-in-another-world-19469?ep=131575 and tried, it casted straight from Brave to the Google TV and had no issues as I went to full screen, minimized it, switched windows, etc.

@tellemstevdave do you prefer to only use Cast Tab? I generally just Cast Screen so it will show anything I’m working on and it works flawlessly. Literally anything you would see on your device is sent to Google TV. It’s what I do/did when watching movies and all.

Cast Tab has had a long history of being a bit too restrictive based on my experiences, especially with things like YouTube. This is true even on Chrome.

It’s not all websites but any that try and use the optimize fullscreen feature I think. I always use cast tab because I multi-task while watching TV. Your link worked for me after a couple tries.

Try this one. It never works for me: https://southhemitv.com/2023/03/25/episode-10-27/

Also cast screen never works for me on any site

Okay I might have fixed this.Turning off hardware acceleration seems to have fixed things maybe!? Lemme verify for a few days

Yeah that fixed it. A bummer because the browser is less responsive now

Should have nothing to do with Cast.

Btw, had done that with absolutely no issue.
