Additional Information:

It feels like a race condition happens when many tabs are open.

Is this still accurate?

Brave is at 1.50.121 as of this moment. Can you update?

What Linux distro?

How did you install Brave?

How many tabs do you have open there? I typically have many open as well and have not seen this issue, although granted most of my heavy usage is on Windows.

What are your Shields settings?

What does your brave://settings/shields/filters setup look like?

Hi JimB1,

Thanks for the prompt response.

Yes, that version info was accurate. I just upgraded (to .125 instead of .121 you mentioned). I’m using Arch Linux, and upgraded using yay -S brave-bin.

Brave 1.50.125 Chromium: 112.0.5615.165 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Revision c262f36e6b1d711ee42d4fbe1343b49960593f18-refs/branch-heads/5615@{#1297}

It feels like a memory management issue more than the actual number of tabs (seemingly) open. I’m stating this because it will not happen after a fresh start of Brave, when tabs are ‘placeholders’. Now I even reloaded my ~280 tabs by cycling through them, and still not happening.

Shield settings:

Everything is default, except that I have the following Filter lists enabled:

  • Fanboy’s Mobile Notifications List
  • hufilter

Oh yes, that’s right, I forgot about the .125 Linux-only release.

OK good. Any idea whether the issue still occurs in the later release, or too soon to tell?

I guess this is how you initially installed it? https://brave.com/linux/#arch

One thing you could look at is brave://settings/system, under ‘Performance.’ ‘Memory Saver’ was introduced fairly recently, although I don’t recall if it defaults to On or Off. In any case I’d be curious to see if having that enabled helps at all.

Might be a good idea to disable those Filter Lists as well, in case they’re causing excessive consumption. But maybe that could be a Step 2, if Memory Saver doesn’t help.
