It would be super intuitive and convenient for the speedreader icon on the search bar to be a direct toggle on/off switch. I really enjoy using speedreader to de-clutter, but often for software/recipe posts, it can be super convenient to toggle it off to look at images of code or whatever that are otherwise blocked. It’s kind of annoying to click on it and switch it from on to off/vice versa when it could be done in one step.
Please make the speedreader a direct toggle feature.
Thanks!
@lordhabibi,
The toggle in the address bar turns Speedreader on/off for the specific site you’re on. The toggle in Settings
turns the feature on/off entirely. I guess I’m not entirely sure what is being asked here?
The icon in the address bar opens a box where the toggle is located. The two step (click on icon-> click toggle on/off) is entirely pointless, whereas instead just making the icon itself a toggle switch would be loads more convenient. Instead of two steps, it would just be to click the icon to turn speedreader on/off. Hope I clarified a bit
@lordhabibi,
Yes it does clear things up thank you for that. I will ask the team and see if they have clear answer on this and either way I’ll pass on the feedback here.
@lordhabibi,
The main reason for this is because we plan to have formatting options added to speedreader, which will appear in the dropdown after clicking the icon – not something you can do with a simple toggle:
Note that the image above is an example image and may not reflect the finalized design.

Brave V1.32.115 Windows 10. When I click grey icon (text reads “turn on reader mode”) the page switches to reader mode with red icon. When I click red icon (text reads “turn off reader mode”) nothing changes and I cannot click back in history. Tested using NewScientist.com. I definitely need to be able to return to full page.
Mattches, thank you so much for following up and for letting me know of the possible updates. I appreciate it lots. That makes sense and I am looking forward to the new updates!
