Sorting bookmarks my way

Description of the issue:
unable to sort bookmarks my own way-they were switched to alphabetical and that is unacceptable.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.

  1. tryit again-it still wont work
2.look in the three-line menu bar and there is no sort option
3.try moving any of the bookmarks out of alphabetical position-cant be done
4.search the internet and then this forum, found old threads that have been closed and were never answered.

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):
everything remains in alphabetical order.

Expected result:
i expect to be able to sort bookmarks my own way and not have them changed automatically. it would be impossible for me to recreate the filing system i have now.

Reproduces how often:
all the time since it happened this morning.

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):

Version 1.46.140 Chromium: 108.0.5359.99 (Official Build) (64-bit)

OS Ubuntu 22.04.1

hp laptop

Additional Information:
right now i hope to be able to make an export html of the bookmarks hoping they are still in my order if i havent touched them. i have only tried working in one folder so far and since that happened i have to make emergency preparations in case i am forced to go to a new browser (besides my primary browser vivaldi which i already have, i need two browsers).

Hello there @salima please accept my apologies for this inconvenience. Are you able to sort them if you go to brave://bookmarks/ and drag them out? With your mouse hold-click on one bookmark and drag it to see if you are able to change the order.

Let me know if that works.

kevin-
thank you so much for replying.
i tried it just now and it isnt easy but i got it to work a couple of times. it is very quirky-it is very easy that whenever i touch a link to move it, it often opens up when i want to move it, weird things like that are happening.
is it possible i can do it by going to brave://bookmarks/ but not be able to if i go through the three lines menu to ‘bookmarks manager?’

Hi again @salima let me kindly inform you that at this time you can only sort bookmarks by name on the brave://bookmarks/ menu.

If you’d like you can open a feature request topic regarding being able to change the order of the bookmarks by different values. Please see https://community.brave.com/c/brave-feature-requests/57.

If you export your Bookmarks through an HTML file, this will remain on the same order they were when the file was created.

If you have other concerns, please let me know.

thank you, i appreciate your reply and i must say brave is one of the two best i have tried. i dont have any extensions working and i very much like the fact that it can do everything i need without having to add anything. the ad blocker is fantastic. also i find that whenever i had a problem with one of my financial sites being unable to work properly on other browsers, brave was able to accommodate them so that i didnt have to resort to using firefox, which all sites continue to try to conform to and i dont want to download.

i dont quite understand what is happening. i know i have accidentally hit something while i was trying to move a new one into the place i wanted it and they were then changed to alphabetically sorted. i saw the option ‘undo sort’ but it disappeared before i could hit it and had to resort them all the way i wanted them. i couldnt make the same thing happen whenever i hoped to test, verify and record what happened, although it did happen once again. unfortunately i dont know what i did to cause it, but this time i was able to use the unsort option and it was automatically returned to the way i had arranged it.

yesterday while i was trying to recreate anything at all on purpose, which i never really could, i was able to move items into a different place using both access by the url and also by going through the menu in the upper right hand corner of the page to reach ‘bookmarks manager’. anyway i am relieved to know that they will still stay wherever i put them, that is all i want.

i am beginning to suspect my mouse may be misbehaving…
