Some Omnibox Search Engines Don't Work

Description of the issue:

Some omnibox search engines do not work as expected. The search engine keyword is entered, but the URL bar layout does not visually change to “Search [search engine name]” to indicate that the search engine is active, but the empty icon to the left of the text will change to the icon of the search engine. If I continue to type in the search query itself after the keyword and press enter the search keyword and the search query will be used to make a search of the default search engine instead of the custom engine (to google, duckduck, etc.). Perhaps it is related to the search scripting method uses by different websites? I don’t know, and am not techncially savvy.

Two examples of search engines that don’t work:

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Use one of the two search engines above to execute a keyword search in the URL bar.

Expected result:

Execute the search query using the designated search engine instead of the default search engine (google, brave, duckduck, etc.)

Brave Version( check About Brave):

Version 1.27.108 Chromium: 92.0.4515.107 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:

Windows 10 Pro x64 21H1

Both work fine with the correct queries:

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/search?search=%s
https://trove.nla.gov.au/search?keyword=%s

It appears I’m silly enough to have thought the ‘s’ in the ‘%s’ indicated pluralisation :man_facepalming:
