Severe memory leak?

i am watching a livestream on youtube and i reached 5.2gb memory leak before the tab crashed, now i restarted, disabled gpu acceleration, enabled memory save, it’s still remping up. it’s at 3.4gb atm, i even have youtube premium so there’s no ad blocking interference, but for safe measures i did disable brave shields, still getting the memory leak.

my version is Version 1.76.73 Chromium: 134.0.6998.45 (Official Build) (64-bit)
im at windows 10

Can you please try launching a Guest window (Menu --> More tools --> Guest window), close your original profile window (so only the Guest profile is open) and then test YT live stream there and see if you get the same memory usage?

On my end, on both macOS and Windows systems, I’ve had a YT live stream (1080p @60fps) going for about 10 minutes and only seeing ~400MB - 480MB memory usage:

hi and thank you for your reply, i tried your method with guest profile and it ramped up to 1.7gb after 5~ minutes, im afraid it did not work

Thanks for checking.
In digging into this I’m now seeing that I actually opened an issue for this some time ago that does not appear to have been resolved:

I went ahead and included your report in the Github issue and pinged some team members internally to take another look.

Try re-testing with HW acceleration enabled @sebbe

so far it doesnt go above 400mb but i only tried for 10~ minutes, how come disabling it then re-enabling it helped? ill wait a bit and come back to tell the result

Just a test I did, semi-related, measuring ram use.

yeah it did it, so weird! thanks a lot for the help, i hope it wont reappear because it’s enabled now

any extensions? that may have an affect also

yeah, these, mostly imported from google chrome as i recently switched, only 2 days ago

Some of these will affect it.

If it happens again, download Brave Beta (uses a different profile) but with no extensions. and load the same video and let it play.
