Reached out to Brave Support team and they have reverified my account. Thanks! I’ll leave this up as constructive feedback. What Operating System and Brave version are you using ?
Windows / 1.43.88 Is your browser wallet currently verified?
No. It was unverified this month. What date did you verify your wallet?
11/17/2019 Have you been able to successfully receive payments in the past?
Yes. I last received one last month (August) but have been receiving them monthly for over a year. Are you using a VPN? (yes/no)
I have used a VPN in the past but never had an issue. I have not used a VPN in months. When using the VPN, I used the same country I am from, USA. Are you in a supported region (see here for list of supported regions)?
Yes. Does your device pass the SafteyNet check (Android only)?
Yes. Have you manually turned off Auto-contribute on all of your devices linked to Uphold??
Yes.
I have seen users say using a VPN can cause this issue. If that was the case, I should have ran into this issue months ago and not this month. I’m very frustrated by this, as I’ve used Brave for years and never had issues. I understand that listing the reason for being flagged helps users find ways to abuse the system. But not giving users a reason is not transparent and reflects poorly on the company. I’ve told everyone I know how awesome Brave is and even recommended the company I work for to use Brave, and now I’ve been flagged by the system for an unknown reason.
Flagging users seemingly at random and blaming the AI and not even listing a reason so users can take corrective action is a serious issue and will cause serious issues for this browser. I don’t want to see that happen, but I’m honestly appalled that this has happened not only to myself but to so many others. If your AI flags users for violating the terms of service or terms of use, then you should be able to list the part of the terms of service or use that a user violated and not just simply state “you might not have done anything wrong, it could be the AI!” I would like to know what I did wrong, if anything, so that I can keep from doing it again. It’s also very off-putting to me that I’m told “No action is required… Your profile will be automatically reevaluated on a regular basis to determine when (or if) the flag can be removed. Please try again every so often to see if the flag has been removed.” I’m fairly heavily invested in BAT and the Brave Browser has been an important part of my every day life for at least 5 years. Then out of no where, I’m told my account is unverified for an unknown reason and I’m supposed to just sit around and wait for something that may or may not happen? What??
I don’t mean to come off as rude to anyone and apologize if that’s how you perceive this post, as I myself work in the IT sector and understand how overworked and underpaid we all are in this sector. I’m just very frustrated and disappointed that this has happened to me after using Brave for roughly 5 years and Rewards for almost 3 years without issue. I’m not usually the type to make a fuss or complain, but Brave has been important to me for a long time and with this happening, I had to say something.
Another edit: Since this turned into feedback/complaint more than a request for help, I’ve changed the post from Brave Rewards to Rewards Feedback.
Thanks.
Just FYI, if you did wrong and they know it, you’ll be permanently flagged. So if you did something wrong, you’ll know it because they’ll tell you that you’re out of luck, pretty much.
If there weren’t so many people committing fraud and openly even asking how to bypass restrictions, you might be right. I mean, even with this “region not supported” stuff going on, people blatantly start asking “can I use a VPN to bypass it?”
In the past, Brave used to reveal more to people. But by making flag notifications appear shortly after the activity, people starting attempting things and then used the flag notification to narrow it down. Also, when Brave suggested things, such as how VPN to appear outside of regions, people then attempted to bypass that. There were people in unsupported countries trying to make sure they knew what adjustments to make in their system and the VPN so they’d appear as if they were in a supported country. After that, they bought Uphold accounts from people, which obviously was from identity fraud and all.
One thing I will say is I’ve been talking about this matter with Brave for a while and they are looking into the idea of improving on notifying people when they’ve been flagged and trying to direct them to the proper action if they need to contest it. They’ve also been improving the system to review flagged accounts more frequently, as it’s pretty much just kept people flagged forever once it did flag them.
As to you being flagged, I’m sure perhaps you’re aware, but make sure you’ve submitted a support ticket if you haven’t already done so, that way Brave can look into it and hopefully resolve your flag.
Oh, sorry, one more thing. Keep in mind it’s not just a normal tech thing. Like if you were playing a video game or using a normal web browser. This is dealing with cryptocurrency, which is heavily regulated by governments lately. It adds in more layers of headaches than a lot of people tend to think about.
You’re right that improvements need made and I know it’s in the works, but not as quickly or in the ways we often hope.
I thought I’d mentioned it in the post, but I’ve edited it so many times that I may have taken it out; but yes, I’ve already submitted a support ticket.
Thanks for including the bit that if it’s permanent, it’s usually accompanied with the “perma banned” message. That makes me feel a littler better.
I hope this can get worked out quickly. Thanks again.
Well shoot. I just read through that post and it says you can’t use automation to generate rewards. I bet I know what happened now.
I’ve been using an autoclicker on a game that I play. Brave has been open in the background overnight while I was doing this. I bet the AI thought I was doing it to generate rewards when I was really just playing a game… I’ll make sure to start closing out of Brave when I do this to see if that alleviates the problem. Thanks for sharing that.
