Random Crashing of Brave Browser - up to date on up to date Mac Mini 2

Description of the issue:
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. I have no idea what is happening, as it seems entirely random. The browser suddenly shuts down. Could be shortly after I’ve signed on…or hours later.

@Rick while waiting for Support to review and get back to you, could you perhaps advise of the following:

  1. Are you using any extensions?

  2. Can you test in a new (secondary) profile and see if it happens there?


I have the exact same version on a macbook m1, and have been experiencing random crashes since updating. As an experiment I tried installing Brave Beta, but that crashes immediately every time I try to open it.

It happens randomly after quite some time, so it would be very hard to try to reproduce in a different profile. The first time it happened I sent a crash report, I’m pretty sure I didn’t check the “Don’t ask again” box, but after the other crashes I didn’t get asked to send a crash report.

I usually have 2-3 Brave windows open with different profiles. (although they are in the same sync chain and therefore have the same extensions)

To answer the question @Saoiray, I am using the following extensions:

Extensions…only a three.

Would rather wait to see if they have any idea what’s going on before I start trying options that complicate my end.

Second profile to test isn’t anything complicated. It keeps your original profile and all. You just would have the second one that starts fresh. If it didn’t crash, then would let us know it’s likely settings or extensions that was causing issue. But if it crashed as well, gives an indication it’s something more than that.

But yeah, all good.

Hey, just here to reply that I am having the exact same issue.

I will open Brave it will randomly crash. Sometimes it crashes 2 or 3 minutes after I start a session, or sometimes after 1 or 2 hours.

  • Happens in multiple profiles
  • Tried a brand new test profile and it happened too
  • Yes I am running multiple extensions (2 or 3) in each profile
  • Deleted and reinstalled Brave and it still didn’t fix
  • Started around 8th December for me

The same here! It’s been crashing more and more in the last few days/weeks.

  • crashing in mutliple profiles
  • I don’t have a ton of extensions
  • I use Leo

Glad I’m not the only one with the issue. I will keep using Brave but use Firefox in the meantime for important tasks that I can’t risk having a crash occur during. Hopefully they fix it soon. Will be following this thread!

@laszlo-duck thanks for sharing. Btw, if you and @Rick are able, it’s easier to copy/paste than screenshots on crash reports. When going by screenshots, support or devs have to look and try to type it all out. Plus is margin of error there. If you copy/paste directly, then they can do the same. I mean, at least info is shared either way, but just is helpful if not too much trouble for you.

@simonito1 and @haljordan also would be helpful if you can make sure that things at brave://crashes are uploaded and you can copy/paste the info here.

If you go to brave://crashes and it says Send Now (like in the top of laszlo-duck’s screenshot), you’ll need to click that and then exit Brave for like 20-30 seconds. Then you can open and return, at which point it should say Uploaded Crash Report ID. That is the info needed.

Oh, and I tagged Mattches at end of day yesterday. Going to go ahead and tag in @steeven too. Hopefully they’ll get it passed on and looked at. I’m hoping they’ll have some feedback on this before the weekend, especially to see if all of you seeming to have the same problem.

I went back to the crashes page and it now says there are no recent crashes. The crash page crashed. So… I can’t cut/paste…they’re all missing.

Using latest Brave v1.61.101 and Mac OS Sonoma 14.2 (23C64)
