Phising links when opening an email-link

Description of the issue:

So I use brave as my main browser. When i open my gmail and i want to open an email with a link inside. Then i go to a phising link, it gets blocked by my Nordvpn. But still it is annoying, Cuz I don’t go to the correct website.

When i try a diffrent browser it all works fine, so it is not my vpn or whatsoever.
It is probably a setting in brave but i have no clue wich one.
Can someone help me with this?

Thx in advance

Expected result:
fix :slight_smile:
Brave Version( check About Brave):
V1.65.126

@slens,
Apologies but I’m not quite clear on what you’re asking — are you saying that you want to go to the phishing site? What exactly is the difference between what happens in Brave vs other browsers?

its brave that lets me go to phising sites. For example i get an email from takeaway. And i click in the email on a link then it will let me go to a phising website (most of the time it is a fake metamask) instead of the right takaway website. (it is not a fake spam email but legit)

Cuz when i open the same email on a diffrent browser and i click on the same link it will let me go to the right website.

@slens,
Sorry but I’m still confused by the expected behavior here. What I see in the screenshot your sharing is Brave giving you about as stern a warning as you can given, telling you not to go to the site you’re attempting to go to. So is this not the behavior you want? Further, you said that

Yes, if you truly wanted to, the option to do so is also on this page but thats pretty standard and as stated before, the warning that you’re going to a site you should not be going to on that page is pretty strong. Most other browsers should display the same or a very similar page when you attempt to go to one of these sites.

Its strange that i only get these warnings when using brave. So my nordvpn doenst work on other browsers?

I also dont get it why it sends me to this trk… link cuz when i use other browser it lets me go direct to the right website. 5and its not only me but a friend has the same problem)

I’m so sorry but I still don’t understand what you are expecting here.

In your first screenshot, what you are showing is what looks like the in-browser security feature (I believe this is part of Safe browsing) that will trigger when you attempt to go to a site that is known to be (or has the high potential to be) malicious. Without any other security extensions or software running, you would expect to see that page, or a similar one, in all browsers when you attempt to go to one of those sites.

In the second screenshot, it looks like you’re seeing the NordVPN anti-virus/security functionality at play here, where a third party software (in this case, NordVPN) is detecting that the site you’re going to may be malicious and is warning you before you go there.

So here are the questions I have for you:

  • Is the issue you’re trying to describe that, in Brave, the NordVPN warning does not appear but you are expecting it to do so?
  • What browser are you using when you see the second screenshot you sent, where NordVPN stops you from visiting?
  • Can you please clarify what you mean when you say? “[…]when i use other browser it lets me go direct to the right website”? What website are you referring to here that you are trying to visit?

I was getting these warnings only in brave, other browser i used was the cryptotab browser. There i didn’t get any warnings.

I googled the website and apparently it is know that nordpvn flags it but it is safe to use. So for now i just marked it as safe, then it works again.

So you can close this topic.

Thx for replying.
