PDF reading in the browser

:uk::eu: Hello, Brave is an excellent browser on iOS. However, a function is unavailable on iOS and I do not know why? This is the possibility of reading PDF files, directly in the browser, when we click on a link pointing to a PDF instead, the browser offers to download it while in my opinion as for many people, it would be Useful as in Safari to be able to visualize it directly in the browser, without necessarily downloading it. A sharing button could save it if necessary in the files or in the cloud.

I know that this subject has already been discussed by certain users, but faced with the absence of this functionality to date, I allow myself to restart your attention to this. Thank you to the community for supporting this position.

Thank you very much for your attention. I really hope that this feature will be released one day.

Good Point They should have that.

This might be a Brave setting. I am using latest version for MacOS and when I click on a link to a pdf it opens it in the tab without downloading. To download, I must control-click and select Save Link As…

Indeed this problem is not present on MacOS. I am talking here for iOS systems: iPhone and iPad. Thank you

Interesting… my configuration is iOS 17.6.1 and Brave version 1.69.2 and I opened up a test PDF within Brave in the tab.

I also have Adobe Reader installed
This is a small test file I played around with

This PDF I opened in the browser tab as well

Thank you very much for your answer. Indeed I just tested, I have the same version as you plus with iOS 18. It works with the two examples you gave, I just tested several types of links pointing to PDFs, some open directly in browsers. However other PDF files do not open in the browser, and this when I click on a button on certain sites in particular. Unfortunately I cannot cite this site because it is private but I did the test with Safari and Safari behaves differently. The PDF opens directly in the browser, but this is not the case for Brave. Thanks for your help in any case.

You bet! I have noticed some issues with the way Brave handles file downloading. Sometimes Brave will munge the file path and instead of https://url it will download the PDF file and the path will be something like file///private/var/mobile and you can’t pull it up directly in the browser. In this case I might try another browser like you did. When you click on the link does it show an error or just not open, or open in another program?

When I want to open the link pointing to the PDF that does not work with Brave. A new tab opens “about:blank” and it offers me directly to download the PDF instead of viewing it in the browser as with Safari. This happens for some links and not for all.
the link looks like this one ( that does not exist): « https://url.fr/test/m/?c=test&f=getPdf&id=test.pdf »
