One Brave profile crashing

Mail sent.

Thanks and good luck!

Thanks for the quick response, @Jokebreaker!

I didn’t see anything too crazy - I do have an educated guess for something we can try which you didn’t try yet.

Going back to the shortcut window we did earlier. You had tried adding some arguments to when Brave launches. I have two more you can try:
--disable-extensions --disable-sync

If you add these at the end of the Target: field so it looks something like:
"C:\Program Files\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\Application\brave.exe" --disable-extensions --disable-sync

Then hit Apply and try launching and then going into the profile that was experiencing the crashes.

The guesses I have:

  • There could be a problem with sync. We recently ran into an issue with # of history entries causing a problem for folks. We did a fix on the server side and so far, things seem great. But it’s possible there could be another scenario.
  • The extensions you have installed seem to be fine. But some of them have local state (ex: if you logged in with it). I don’t have visibility into that and it’s possible the extension only causes an issue when it has this local state (ex: you signed into it).

Please try this - let me know. If this DOES work, you can try editing the Target: field to remove one of the two. For example, remove --disable-sync and relaunch to see if it has the problem. This should help us narrow it down!

If the extensions is causing a problem, you can try to rename the extension settings folder. This is where the local state for the extension is stored. It should be at a location like this (substitute Profile 1 for your profile):
%LOCALAPPDATA%\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Profile 1\Local Extension Settings. You can rename that folder as %LOCALAPPDATA%\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Profile 1\Local Extension Settings_BACKUP. If extensions require sign in, you may need to do that again - at least you might be able to narrow down which one is causing a problem.

If sync is the problem, you can go to another device where sync is working and then remove this device.

When done troubleshooting or you get back into a good state, you can remove the --disable-extensions --disable-sync arguments from your shortcut’s Target: field

Hi again
Tried the three potential version
“C:\Program Files\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\Application\brave.exe” --disable-extensions --disable-sync
“C:\Program Files\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\Application\brave.exe” --disable-sync
“C:\Program Files\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\Application\brave.exe” --disable-extensions
in that order and sadly same crash
here they are

Hey, hum sorry, but i’m still crashing and it’s been a while i shared my problems and answers are long to come every 2 or 3 messages.
So, do i have to stop brave for good or they are still things to try?
Because i feel impatience coming on the way even if i don’t like it.

HI @Jokebreaker . I’m still struggling to find out steps to reproduce. I’m so sorry for the troubles.

Thanks for the answer
So the issue is more complicated than we thought?

So the issue is more complicated than we thought?

I’m suspecting something but I’m not 100% sure as I can’t verify it without reproducing it. Let me check if other folks in the team can reproduce it.

Hi, sorry for the delay. I’m trying to patch the crash so that it wouldn’t happen.

Find the Profile name which is Crashing

Turn off Wi-Fi and close brave

Go to the User data of the Profile, Cut the Extensions Folder and Paste it in your Music Folder

Launch the Profile again(without turning on Wi-Fi)

Export Bookmarks, Passwords

Once you have Recovered, Move Extensions folder back to Profile(withot closing brave)

Turn on Wi-Fi

While you do the Steps, Use Edge and Install Loom Extension and Record the behavior

Share the Link here.
